I completed my senior year of high school at my local community college. I earned college credits while fulfilling my senior year requirements.
I currently have 15 transferable credits. I am taking a summer session class right now and then I will have 18 transferable credits. When I'm done my summer session class, I want to start applying to colleges to transfer to in the spring. But in the fall, I will continue to take classes at the community college. I am taking 3 classes(one of the classes is a four credit class), so by the time I transfer to the college I end up going to, I'll have 25 transferable credits.
Will I be considered a freshman or a sophomore when I transfer in the spring?

You need to ask each of the colleges/universities that you are applying to about their specific policy.

Some will consider you a transfer applicant because you have more than one college credit. Others will consider you a freshman applicant because when you begin classes there, you will have completed fewer than 30 college credits.

Well I know that I’ll definitely apply to the colleges as a transfer. It won’t matter how many credits I have. As long as a have credits, I’m a transfer.

You have to be aware that SOME times a transfer is more difficult to get into an elite college than a new applicant. Moreover, the top 30 colleges do not accept much of the credits. If you are going to a public in-state univ. that is different.

Transfer students often get less aid and small scholarships. It’s always better to apply as an incoming freshman who has credits during the high school years.

Well I already graduated high school, and I registered for classes at community college for the fall semester. So I can’t apply as a freshman.

I think applying as a freshman is a great idea! It will be your first day in college. Also, freshman students look cooler in sun glasses. I once knew a freshman student named William Wallace - he was in a similar situation except he was eight feet tall and could shoot balls of lightning out of his…

Just kidding, but I was trying to go along with the thread so far.

In all seriousness - you will probably be considered as a freshman transfer (yes, that does exist) as most schools require 30 credits for sophomore standing. However, if you take summer courses again next year, you can jump to junior standing fairly easy.
