Will I be denied from UOFA and ASU?

Hello. I really want to study in Arizona, so I’m applying to both UOFA and ASU. I’ve already sent in an application to ASU for a Medical-studies (BS) for fall of 2019, I haven’t heard back yet and I’m wondering what my chances are at being accepted/rejected. I live in California so I won’t be applying as a resident, I have a composite ACT score of 25 with specifics of 28 english, 18 math, 30 reading, and 22 science. I’m mostly a B student with a few C’s in my math classes. The math is where I’m REALLY worried. The requirements are 4 years of math with the 4th year being a math class with Algebra 2 as a pre-req. I got a D first-semester of algebra 2 since I was on independent study and got a C second semester. My counselor advised me to retake it during summer, unfortunately, when I took the college placement test I didn’t do well and had to take algebra 1 during summer and I won’t be able to re-take algebra 2 until this Fall. I’ve already applied for algebra 2 at my local community college but is it worth it? I don’t have a math class in my senior class list but I will speak to my counselor about it if it will give me admission to UOFA/ASU but I’m worried that taking a higher math class will only lower my chances due to me being really, really, REALLY, awful meaning I definitely will not get an A. I will be extremely happy to get a C. I mean, I barely passed the algebra 1 college summer course. I’m also worried that taking algebra 2 during the fall won’t higher my chances and will only cause me more stress. Other than math, I meet all the requirements for being accepted. What should I do, if anything, and what are my chances? Should I apply to california universities to be my safety net or are my arizona applications enough?

TDLR; Admission requirements are 4 years of math, I only have 3. I took algebra 1, geometry, and algebra 2. I’m also not expecting to take a math class my senior year. Will I be rejected or accepted?

Pretty sure if you can read & write & have a high school degree that you will be admitted to both schools.

A couple of years ago, the acceptance rates were 83% for ASU & 79% for U of Arizona.

No standardized tests required–unless there has been a recent change.

sounds like good odds, I just always think about the 17% that were rejected. what could they have done that was so bad? bleh. hope it works out

I wouldn’t be entirely worried. My friend applied to ASU last year and she had only taken three years of math (and didn’t take algebra II at all) and still got accepted. She’s an average student with A’s and B’s and I believe one or two C’s.
I, too, applied to ASU (fall 2019) on July 29th, and I’m waiting to hear back. I hope all goes well for you and perhaps we’ll be Sun Devils together next year!

The great aspect of ASU is the size of the student body which allows the university to offer a tremendous variety of majors.

Plus, for the smart & diligent students, a very well respected Honors College.

So admission to ASU (and the UofA) requires satisfying the competency requirements set by the AZ Board of Regents and outlined here: https://students.asu.edu/admission/competencies. The math competency is set forth as follows:

It sounds like you don’t satisfy any of those. It says that admission is possible with a deficiency in two competency areas as long as they are not both math and science. But that means you are no longer in the “auto admit” category but are in the category of discretionary admission.

Also, you say you want to major in Medical Studies. Medical Studies requires that you take MAT 170 which is Precalculus. https://webapp4.asu.edu/programs/t5/roadmaps/ASU00/NHMEDBS/null/ALL/2018. I think you need to contact whoever is your admissions representative about this. You can find your admissions representative here: https://students.asu.edu/freshman/requirements
