Will I be prepared for the SAT?

Hello, high school freshman here from Canada. I’m looking to apply to some American colleges (my #1 goal is MIT), and I am aware that in order to apply, you need to complete the SAT’s and the SAT Subject Tests. But I have some concerns regarding learning the material.

The education curriculum in Canada is very dull and behind, and I am not sure whether I can start preparing for the SAT’s since I don’t know whether I would be ready for the material. I don’t know a lot of math (Algebra I, and barely any Algebra II which mind you, I self-taught myself for due to the boredom I faced with the math curriculum. I also know only a little bit of geometry), and I also do not know a lot of science. My knowledge of bio, chem and physics is very small - I only skimmed through the most basic of the basics in my science classes (;; I don’t even know how to write a chemical equation).

My main concern is the material. I have about 2 years to study if I want to take the SAT’s in my junior year. Will that be enough time? Also, will I be ready for the material when I start studying? For the record, I will be using the Collegeboard SAT prep books and the Barron’s SAT prep to study.

Also, feel free to give suggestions and tips on how I might tackle this. Thanks so much =)

Ideally, you have a strong foundation in math, english, and reading to do well on the SAT’s… If you are only going to be a freshman, you are probably getting a little ahead of yourself. You have plenty of time to study and prepare for SATs in the following years - if you still want to do it by then. Ideally, you would learn Algebra 2/Geometry in the following years and be ready to take the SAT’s. If not, you will have to self study, and that will probably require some extra dedication on your part.

Keep in mind that you only need to take one science subject test (as well as a math) for MIT.
