Hi , I am from India. I would be applying to US Universities next fall. Now , my question is my father and mother studied till high school . But my brother studies in a nearby small college. Will I be still considered a first generation student?

Yes - your brother is the same generation as you – both of you are first generation college applicants.

Thank you Momof2back2back…!!! He will be also applying for transfer admission.

Will it be considered a small hook at ED at Penn?

When your son applied to his first college, it might have been a hook. But, when he is applying for transfer admissions, he’s already in college, so it’s not a hook. BTW: unless I’m mistaken, I don’t think he can apply ED for transfer admissions:[Application Deadlines and Fee for Transfer Students - Penn Admissions](http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/apply/transfer-admission/application-deadlines-and-fee)

Well , I am the student . My brother will be applying to Penn for transfer and I’ll be applying ED. Will It be a hook for me?
Thanks gibby for replying ! :)

It might be a small one, but only if the rest of your qualifications (transcript, test scores, essays and teacher recommendations) are all top-notch.

Thank you gibby once more!

Are you an American living in India, or a citizen of India? Will you need financial aid?
Those two elements would affect your application more than being first-gen, but if you’re an American citizen it would give you a little boost.
Also, realize that your odds of getting into Penn are about 1:20 so I hope you’re applying to a lot of other schools.
A top school that encourages applications from first gen students is Hamilton.

Well I’m a citizen of India. I think that Princeton EA will be good , beacuse I need fin aid.
