Will I get in, or at least have a good chance to get in?

Hi I am incoming senior at my high school (class of 2019) and am hoping to be admitted to the University of Pittsburgh as it is my top choice. I intend to apply as an out of state freshman from California with a major in Biological Sciences with hopes to enter the Pharmacy program. I have a 3.125 unweighted gpa and a 3.4 weighted gpa; however, I don’t actually know if thats what UPitt will use or if they will recalculate my gpa, I have calculated my gpa several different times using my school’s method, other school’s methods and using gpa calculators but my gpa differs every time between all of the other methods. Furthermore, about my gpa, It shows an upward trend which drops in my sophomore year but picks up significantly in my junior year. I am involved in my schools track, and soccer teams as well as in a club soccer team, I am a member of my school’s HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) chapter and became one of the top 5 students in California for Pharmacology. This summer I competed internationally in Pharmacology (again for HOSA), I am also currently volunteering, taking a college class, and taking a certification class to be licensed as a pharmacy technician. My highest SAT score is a 1340 but I am waiting for the June 2 SAT score to come out with, hopefully, a higher score. Based on this, what would my chances be?

So you would be applying for the Dietrich School of Arts and Science and then applying to pharmacy school, correct?

Hopefully someone here with Dietrich experience can chime in.

Are your parents fine with paying $43,000 per year?

I think you have a chance! I would also contact the admissions rep in your region to show interest

Yeah my parents are fine with paying that much money since it is more cost effective than the pharmacy programs here in California

I am also visiting the campus on July 27. But I can’t seem to find the contact info for that admissions rep in my region

An increased SAT score might help with the < 3.5 GPA. But you have a good chance. Especially if the upward trend continues in senior year.

@SpartanAzure, I am going to DM you the contact information for our California Enrollment Service Manager!

@hailtopitt1787 My son is a rising junior and really wants to go to Pitt (his brother is starting this year at the honors college. He just got his ACT 32 and has a 4.0 unweighted. Do you think they are going to raise the minimum ACT for Honors? Not sure if he should take it again. Thanks

Updated information about the Pitt Honors application process can be found on our website!

@hailtopitt1787 Just curious…The above link does not seem to take into account the updated SAT/ACT Concordance tables released in June (33 ACT = 1450-1480 SAT). I know they are just guidelines but curious to understand if you plan to take the new tables into account when evaluating applicants?

@sable999, We will absolutely take the new concordance tables into account when evaluating students. But please do keep in mind that test scores are one of the multiple factors we take into account when determining admissions for Pitt Honors.

Good luck!

@hailtopitt1787 , S19 applied last week to Pitt. He just was notified of NMSF status in CT. Is there a way to send that supplemental info other than just calling the office of admissions?
Thanks.

The best way to let us know is to email oafa@pitt.edu and just ask us to add that as a note to his applicant record.

Thank you for your responsiveness.
