Will I get in trouble if I don't put indian on my applications?

I was just wondering, will I get in trouble If I don’t put indian on my application under race?
I am about a third Indian, however most people don’t know unless they are told so. I also kinda of feel I will be put at a disadvantage since people do not see me as indian and people say it is harder for asians to get into elite colleges for some reason.

Also, none of this was meant to be rude or offensive in any way.

Just put whatever race you identify as.

I will not put Indian under race. It is a major league disadvantage for top tier places. Too many good indian applicants.
It has nothing to do with self respect etc. It is just being practical.

You don’t have to self-report race. My daughter is 1/2 Indian - she has not reported it anywhere. None of their business as I see it.

You will not get in trouble if don’t put Indian, put the race you’re comfortable putting if you want to put one at all. As others have said, Indian will hurt you so put your 2/3 race and make sure your application reflects it (e.g. don’t list president of asian club, I’m exaggerating, but you get the idea).

@cvalle - it would be great if colleges didn’t use race to select a class but they do, this has been discussed in other threads on cc, but even if you don’t report a race, they’ll try and find out, and I agree it’s none of their business. If you don’t put a race, they’ll assume you’re asian or white, because if you’re not, it would make no sense not to put race in.
