here are some basic facts! (I'm a junior in high school)

-right now I have a 3.61 uc gpa but hopefully after this semester it will be closer to a 3.65

-haven't taken the SAT yet but I got a 1900 on a diagnostic that I didn't study for and I'm currently in a prep class so I'm assuming that my score will be between 1950 and 2100

-3 (maybe 4) year varsity athlete

-4 years in school choir

-10 years in choir outside of school

-3 years choir outside of school (singing holiday gigs for money so technically a job)

First of all, I’d like to let you know that these chance threads are kind of pointless. No one knows how difficult the admissions process will be from year to year, and admissions officers view you a lot differently than we do. I’ll admit, I have a plethora of “chance me” threads floating around on here that I’m not particularly proud of, and they honestly didn’t help ease my mind whatsoever.

Anyway, I think your GPA is pretty low for UCSD. Even with a 2100+ SAT, I don’t think anything will tip you over the edge (based on what I’ve seen on this forum and friends’ decisions this year.) If you really want to go to UCSD, definitely apply. I’m glad I applied to UCLA and Berkeley even though they rejected me.

I went to UCSD admit day last week and the school of engineering posted the stat for the class of 2011. The average GPA for UCSD is 3.81 and for Jacob engineering school is 4.01.

I was at admit day (and jacob’s engineering orientation) and the GPA provided was the average GPA of admitted engineers for the class of 2015. It is not those who choose to attend, for May 1st is not here yet (not everyone has submitted their SIR’s). I vividly remember the dean of engineering saying that that was the average for this year’s accepted students.

Also, I am not 100% sure (because now that I think about it, it seems very high), but I recall that the average for those accepted into Jacob’s engineering was 4.1, not 4.01. This is how i remember it in my head, but that is a significant difference from UCSD’s 3.81. So I am not sure.

Those numbers are for class of 2015 who are admitted to UCSD. The Dean of school of engineering had the GPA number shown on his slide during his presentation.

Are you engineering student? Otherwise you would not miss that number on admit day at UCSD.

gongho I remember the overall UCSD presentation had a higher number than 3.81, I think it was 4.01 for the university and 4.1 for the school of engineering, one thing i do remember is that the school of engineering accepted less than 10% which is a pretty big deal

^ Thank you so I wasn’t wrong bout the stats, and ya gongho if you’re really sick of this then just dont look at the thread anymore, I know I couldn’t care less
