Will I get In

Hey guys!
Im a high school junior with a 3.6 gpa unweighted and 30 ACT. In freshman year I was enrolled in 3 out of the 4 honor classes my school offered. Sophomore year was the same deal but with an AP class instead of honors history and an honors speech class (speech class is a graduation requirement). Junior year I’m enrolled in two AP classes, 1 honor class, and a CIS (college in the schools, meaning you follow the university of Minnesota curriculum and have the same deadlines and works as a UofM student but in high school as a way to get college credit in high school) Senior year I’m enrolled in 2 APs, and 1 CIS (french meaning I have reached college level french). The rest of the classes in senior are filled for grad requirements such as poli sci and economics. As well as math and science aren’t my strongest subject. so they are regular courses

Activities included are:
captain of both the speech and debate that is in top ten of country
French Club
Co-President of Women’s empowerment club
Leadership role in Discussion Club
Mock Trail Captain
One Act

I am an African immigrant from the country of Togo that is first generation as well as a female. I have family members with strong political influence in Togo if that helps
I also live with a single mother that makes about 30k a year

One thing worry I have is that I will be waitlisted due to the fact that Fordham is need aware and I would require almost a hundred percent in aid to attend.

So what are my chances?

Hello Wildcat55,
Your stats and being an underrepresented minority will more than likely place you in the running for acceptance into Fordham University. Keep your stats up and maybe retake the ACT or consider taking the SAT (aiming to get greater than 1410 which is ~30 ACT) to seal the deal. Some people do better on the SAT. Your stats look good for acceptance.

Fordham does give out financial aid yet the top spots of full tuition are for National Merit Semi/Finalist & National Hispanic Scholar’s and the full tuition & room for presidential candidates. These awards are few. My daughter in the class of 2020 received the NMSF award. The class of 2020 had eighty-three NMSF and six presidential scholars. Not all NMSF candidates receive awards. Bottom-line Fordham does not give 100% full ride. Above award candidates still need to pay for room and/or board, fee’s and books etc.

Once attending Fordham you can apply for a Residential Assistant (RA) position which covers room and board. You apply second semester of freshman year. This position is very competitive.

My advice is to apply to many outside scholarships to supplement a Fordham award. Also, you should apply for the Gates scholarship (very selective) which is a full ride. https://www.thegatesscholarship.org/scholarship

30 is a good ACT score. Fordham’s middle 50% ACT range is 28-31. I’m not sure its necessary to retake a 30 for the purposes of admission, given the rest of your record.

agreed. Its for hopefully larger awards
