that’s a lot of info but i’d appreciate it if someone could take the time to read through it and let me know what they think…

Your SATs would probably place you at about the 35th percentile (or thereabouts) of admitted students who submitted SAT scores so you do not get too much help there (but they do keep you in play). Your GPA is on the low side but you did not provide any information as to the type of school you attend (competitive public, selective private, average public). Depending on the type of school you attend, your chances could go up or down. Perhaps your art work will improve your chances but you look like a little bit of a long shot although not completely out of the realm of possibility. But remember Bowdoin does take a holistic approach and will look at your art work, etc. so don't let my opinion discourage you!!!

thanks for taking the time to reply...i'm not really sure about how competitive my high school is and wouldn't know how to find out either. I'm curious about how you know that my SATs put me at the 30% for those who submit them...not that I think you are wrong I just didn't know that info was out there.

I also already got into two of my safety schools which I love so I'm not going to let the fact I probably won't get into one of the most selective liberal arts schools bother me.

Good to know that you have got into your safeties and are able to give Bowdoin a shot without feeling as though it will be the end of the world if you are not admitted. You have a chance as Bowdoin does look at the whole person so it's worth a shot for you, especially if you can effectively present your art work. .

I approximated based on the fact that the Bowdoin SAT ranges for the 25th through 75th percentile for admittees last year were:

660 - 740 (math
660 - 730 (verbal)

Your scores are at the lower end of those ranges but well off the bottom so they probably fall somewhere in the 35th to 45th percentile (approximately).

The scores are available at collegeboard.com

I submitted my scores and I had similar scores (670 CR, 680 M, 790 W)...

Collegeboard indicates that only about 20% of applicants are admitted without SAT/ACT scores.

So I went with your thinking and submitted mine, since I'm at least above the bottom 25% (probably in a spot similar to you, percentile wise), and hopefully Bowdoin looks at the Writing Section with more interest.

I would say Bowdoin is a reach either way (for me too!), but you'd be better off submitting them, especially since with the low GPA and without SAT, I can't see your chances being very good.

I sent in my ACT score of 31, which im guessing is probably low-average for bowdoin this year. I also sent in an art portfolio, although i dont feel that it was that strong and doesnt really represent my art completely. Ive also been included in state-level art exhibitions.

Well, good luck to you, you sound like a strong candidate to me...with any luck maybe well both be headed to brunswick this fall!

How do you arrange ECs while applying? Do you make a list of ECs (Resume) or fillup few ECs only in commonapp list or simply send in photocopies of diff. certificates of ECs? Please help me!

If you let Bowdoin know that it is your first choice, I believe that you have an excellent chance to be admitted since your stats are in their range. All LACs want to be wanted. Helps yield and selectivity statistics for the school.

Basically if you're breathing and have played sports, this college will grant you admission. I'm a student here and I've seen many cro-magnon jocks here in my class. It's pretty ridiculous. Sometimes I walk around campus and wonder exactly where our endowment is going, and to answer this all I have to do is pick up a copy of US News when the rankings for colleges come out. In comparison to the kind of education you will be getting at Bowdoin, I would run to the closest community college and start filling out their application. Truth be told, I failed my first test ever in my college career in the only class I've ever taken at community college, though I find myself still having a 3.8 GPA when posted up against these children.

I don't understand why it's so hard to believe that I actually go to Bowdoin. Most of the time people that really enjoy the school he or she goes to will find themself on a site like this one trying to tell people how amazing their time is here. I for one am one who detests it so much, I'm willing to tell everyone the reasons for doing so. Everyone should be able to hear both sides of the story from kids who love their experiences down to kids who absolutely hate it.

If you were telling the truth, you would be devoting your time to getting out of Bowdoin rather than wasting your time posting nonsense on this website . . And fo course you would be a complete fool if your experiences are as you describe them and you continue to attend the school in question at great expense to your family.

If you do not think that I spent my first year here trying to get out of here, you are mistaken. Secondly, academics are much more important than the social scene, which is why I've learned to tolerate the many boneheads that I have met in my career here. And tell me this, what's the difference between wasting time posting so called nonsense on this website than what you have been wasting time doing on this website?

You can't even keep your disingenuous posts straight. You have already said that academics are a joke at Bowdoin so you would have no reason to be there (if you actually were there which we all know you're not).

It's reputable enough to get me where I want to go, possibly. I do kind of find it kind of funny that you find it so hard to believe that I do go here.

You said in one of your earlier posts that a Bowdoin education is worthless:

If the Bowdoin education is inferor to a community college education and you are getting the 3.8 GPA at Bowdoin that you claim, surely you should be doing everything you can to get out of Bowdoin rather than complaining about it ad nauseam and then lamely claiming that it is somehow going to get you where you want to go in life. If the latter is the case, apparently everyone else in the world is better than you at assessing the value of a Bowdoin education.

That's because they acknowledge what the statistics tell them. I doubt very much so that they get information from many students first handed. And let me clarify, the education itself is worthless. I don't see it helping me at all with what I want to do, however, I do think that it will get me where I want to go. Happy?
