Will I get into Cal Poly Pomona?

I got 1300 on the SAT and 630 on Math Level 2 Subject test. My GPA is around 3.34. Join one book club. Want to major in electrical engineering. Passed AP Calculus AB.

@Knowledge10: SAT of 1300? Is this Math+Critical Reading or Total? GPA is weighted, unweighted or CSU/UC GPA? Are in-state? Junior or Senior? Can’t chance you without this info.

Yes, that’s the total score for the SAT. Got 330 on reading, 660 on math, and 310 on writing. I live in California, so it’s in-state. A senior, will graduate this June.

oh wait on the other forum, I said match because I thought that was your 1600 score. In this case, it’s a reach

Its a reach. Work on bringing up your test scores and joining more clubs. You will need very good letter of rec and a very strong essay. It wouldn’t hurt to bring up your gpa. Get involved in community service too. Good luck! please chance me too

Cal Poly Pomona is a reach especially for Engineering. Since you are a Senior, there is no way you would be able to retake the SAT or do more EC’s. Cal States do not accept essays or letters of recommendation. I hope you have other Cal States such as Channel Islands, San Marcos or Monterey Bay as backups. Good Luck

But I don’t want to go to those colleges. What are some other colleges that are good for engineering but also easy to get into? Maybe I can apply to those.

@Knowlege10: If you are a Senior, the application period for California Colleges have passed. You would need to attend a CC or find a school with rolling admissions. You could try NAU (Northern Arizona University). Although your GPA is not bad, your SAT is really low for any engineering program.

If your CSU GPA is 3.3 - your CSU Index is 3630 (CSU GPA *800 + SAT M&R). That won’t get you into their EE program but, if you listed a less competitive alternate, I think you still have a shot.

Good luck.

I agree with NCalRent, you could list an alternative major, but trying to change into engineering later on (especially with an impacted major) may prove difficult. Going to a CC and proving you can handle the type of classes needed in Engineering may be the best way to go and the then transfer. If you are still set on going to a 4 year college, here are a few more colleges with rolling admissions in California or nearby states. You would need to check if they offer Electrical Engineering.
Concordia deadline 4/1

Cal Lutheran deadline 2/1

ASU-rolling

I recently also applied to CBU. Don’t know if I should go there if I’m admitted.

Reach, but still possible. Just try to bring up your score & GPA.

How about Purdue University? I heard that it’s pretty easy to get admitted. Do you think I can get in with my stats?
