Hi, well, I want to know what are my chances of getting into Cal Poly Pomona. During my 9th grade year, I did not do bad, but I did not do good. My GPA was in t he 2.0s. But sophomore year, i did HORRIBLE. The average GPA I got each quarter during sophomore year was like a 1.3. I really had a hard time. But then I switched schools for my Junior year. This year, I picked up. I got my GPA to the 3.0-3.2 area. It isn't the best GPA, but it is a BIG jump from the 1.3. So now, I am in my Senior year. It just started, but I am scared. My AVID teacher gave me a printout and it says that so far, my cumulative GPA is a 2.38. This, to me, I believe is not good and not good enough for Cal Poly Pomona. But, I am retaking a class I failed and I have a college class that I took that I have not submitted to my school yet. So now it is Senior year. No doubt about it, I am going to make sure I get a 4.0 GPA. So if I do, do I have a chance to get into Cal Poly Pomona?

CC is likely the way to go. I understand that you are going to re-take the SAT, but with the statistics you quote above you don’t meet eligibility requirements for Cal States. The 2.38 GPA is what you will be applying with in the Fall. Here is the index you need to keep an eye on:

Raise that CR+M SAT score above 1000 and you become eligible for CSU’s. In fact your local-service area CSU likely has to admit you. Others, especially the most in-demand CSU’s, will be highly unlikely.

Unfortunately you apply with your 10-12 GPA as of your junior year ending. What about the college class you took? Can that have a positive impact on your GPA? Ask your counselor.

Do you have a local service area CSU? i.e. where do you live?

Likely your best hope is to nail your next sittings for the SAT and/or ACT.

Well, I only took 1 college class so far, which was Music Appreciation for my A-G requirements since my school does not offer a art class. I got a B in the class. Does that mean a A in high school terms or something? I am also planning on taking another 1-2 before the end of my senior year.

I live in Corona, California. And I really do not know if I have a local service area CSU.

And when u say nail the SAT and ACT, what type of score do u mean? 2000+? 25+?

And I am also retaking my Spanish 2 class which I failed in 10th grade ( the problem year). But I am going to make sure I get an A both semesters. And I havent turned in my college class grade yet.

I think your service area is CSU San Bernardino. You’re in luck since the average SAT to get in there is 900. Another choice for you is CSULA where the average SAT is 876. By comparison, Cal Poly Pomona’s average is 1060 and should be way higher this year. Have you read the “anyone heard from Cal Poly Pomona yet” thread. People got rejected from Pomona with 3.8 gpas.

You probably would not get the complete college experience at SB or LA. Other easier to get into colleges for a better experience are Fresno State (934 SAT), CSUN (926 SAT), CSU Fullerton (985 SAT), Sacramento State (955 SAT). All these schools have Division 1 athletics. You’ll be applying in 2 months, so it’s too late to do anything about your GPA. Senior GPAs are only used to confirm applicants that were already accepted with their 9th-11th GPAs.

Just get your CR+M SAT as far above 1000 as you can. That will open up more CSU possibilities.

Keep in mind, you can’t just look at SAT scores of admitted students at the various schools. They got in on a combination of SAT and GPA. If SAT’s are below 1000 GPA’s were probably 3.0+.

Come on, you’ve got to learn these things. The 1000 is combined (think 500 on each of the two sections). Max on any one section of the SAT is 800.

I am literally laughing out loud. First you don’t take your education seriously, you don’t do very well on your SATs, then you don’t know that each SAT section is worth 800 points, and with a few months to go, you want to get serious about high school and you’re asking if you can get in one of the top CSUs? Get real and go to a CC or aim at one of the lower CSUs like SB and LA. CSULA actually has a good engineering department.

Egmontus, yea that was not me that asked how many points one can get on the SAT section. My 8th grade brother came on and asked. So you can shut up and be quiet. I didnt take 1 year seriously and I know. So really, stop putting me down

So I read on you other thread that you though you had a 1300 on your SAT when you only have a 900 with regards to a CSU. A few months to go before applying and you don’t know this? You must be kidding!! Yes, you’ve mentioned plenty of times you’re talking about Pomona. CPP is no walk in the park for people with low grades and scores. Really, do some research and stop blaming your little brother! You’re too late!

Am i blaming my lil bro for anything? Really, if u aint gunna be helpful and basically call me stupid, please, get out of my thread. Its not needed.

Actually, let me apologize. Yes it is my fault that I do not know any of this and that I did bad Sophomore year. I guess the only place I can go is to Community College since apparently no schools would accept my grades.
