Will I get into UMASS Amherst

I am a white female who lives in a mid sizes CT town.

I have about a 2.9 gpa unweighted, however i have taken all honors courses except for cpa math and sciences.

Im currently taking 3 AP classes (AP gov, psych and history of art).

My SAT scores were 1710 (math- 500, writing 570, crit reading- 640)

I applied to the legal studies program EARLY ACTION.

As for extra curriculars I am captain of my schools Debate Team and got a outstanding letter of recc from my coach who has taught me in class. As well as this I have been dancing for about 10 years now; hold a steady job at an arts and crafts store.
I have participated in a charity group that I co-founded and we take a mission trip to albany NY as well as monthly service projects. I have collected over 200 hours of service.
I also am a "core" member of my local youth group, this job entails counseling younger members.

Neither of my parent went to any form of college, so I hope that might add something to my resume

My essay was also well written and according to guidance councilors and english teachers a wonderful essay. I wrote about the feeling I got as a child when i got a new pack of crayola crayons. I then went onto describe how i see the world in crayola colors (tickle me pink, sky blue, razzle red) how this sets me apart and helps me work in a team environment because i realize one color alone cannot create something beautiful

I really love UMASS and Im very anxious to hear my application decision, please help in any way you can.
An outsiders judgement on my chances of getting in would help calm me

Your gpa is definitely very low for UMass, however if it’s unweighted I have no idea what it would actually be. Since you are taking some AP classes there is a chance that it will be a lot higher then a 2.9 in which case I tink you have a good shot however seeing as they don’t have your AP grades yet or even for the first semester, I think your best bet is possibly a deferral and then they’ll see your first semester’s grades.
It really to me depends on your weighted gpa, if it’s not much of a difference from the 2.9 I would say there isn’t much of a shot with even a low 3. Your extra curriculars are really good! Just try and ask your guidance counselor whaty our weighted gpa would be

Keep in mind UMass accepts 2/3 of all applicants so if you are anywhere close to the UMass average your chances should be excellent. If you’ve taken a lot of Honors/AP courses your weighted GPA should be .3-.4 higher than your unweighted, and that pushes you onto pretty solid ground.

I don’t know anything about the Legal Studies program, though; if their requirements are more rigorous than average your chances are lower.
