Will I get into Wesleyan?

I think that I want to apply to Wesleyan early, but I wanted to see if you guys think I can get in?

HELP! THANK YOU ALL! Here is my resume!

I'm a Jewish male from a small private school in Boston.

GPA: 3.7
ACT score: 30 (I am only submitting ACT because that is all that is required)
-I also took the highest courses my school offered.

Extra-curriculars, etc.:
-Editor-in-chief of literary Magazine
-Co-founder and editor-in-chief of school's first student run newspaper.
-Drama officer (meaning one of 3 student leaders in the drama department)
- Varsity tennis all four years including two awards (Coaches Award, and most improved)
- four years involved in, and Vice President of, the Mock Trial team.
- English Department award Junior year (one of the highest awards my school gives out)

Outside of school:
- I teach kindergarten at my temple.
I am also quite involved in social action (volunteering etc.) at my temple, and attend classes once a week there.

I am head of the Massachusetts branch for a grassroots campaign organization supporting Barack Obama.

ALSO!!

***This past summer I attended a five week theatre program at Wesleyan (called Center for Creative Youth) where I got to know the school pretty well.

I think this would look good on the application or in the interview.

Do I have a chance? THANK YOU ALL!

MISTAKE CORRECTION!: My ACT score was 31, not 30.

I think that you definitely have a chance of getting into Wes. Just make sure that you write your essay clearly and effectively and that your interview (if you have one) shows an effective match with the university. Don't BS info. Be honest and direct in the interview. Of course, I never had one with Wes, but then again, I did do pretty well in my other college interviews.

Looks like you have a good shot. You're definitely in the Wesleyan range. Apply early decision if you really love the school; I applied ED and haven't regretted it since :D And like showtunesguy said, write a good essay that shows something more personal; Wesleyan really looks at the "whole package" more than most schools do, I think. Good luck in the whole process!

p.s. the jewish community here is wonderful! feel free to PM me if you have any questions about it :)

Why not take the SAT and submit only if your score is better than your ACT?

You seem like a good candidate

the reason I can't just submit the SAT is that Wesleyan requires 2 SAT2 along with the SAT. The ACT can be submitted alone.

Thanks for all of your help!

Madjoy, I would love to here more about the Jewish community at Wesleyan!

Why not take the 2 SAT2's as well? Again, if the scores aren't great, just don't submit them.

If I want to apply early, I don't have time to take all of those tests. 31 seems fine to me. Is it not?

i'm not saying that a 31 is not great but if you wanted to try the SAT IIs wes has an early decision II plan where it is slightly later but it still shows you have a strong interest in going there

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a 31 on the ACT. But higher is always better so why not give the SATs a shot? What's the downside?

I worry that spending too much time studying for the tests will #1: take me away from my school work so I can bring up my 3.7

and

2 Distract me from writing an excellent essay,=.

again with the bringing up the 3.7 early decision II is a good option because it gives you time to actually show your new [good] grades-- that's what i'm doing

As far as round two, do the chances go down? Is it the same as round 1? Does the college prefer round one?

i'm assuming it's the same as it is all binding early decision- but i actually have no clue, sorry

the downside to taking the SATs is the cost and rediculous amount of time necessary to prep for SATs and 2 SAT iis plus the actual testing time. i wouldnt worry about it.

Thanks, thats good to here that someone feels how I do.

So how are my chances at getting in guys?
