Will I get rescinded/Academic Probation for athletes.

Hello. I was accepted into the JHU class of 2018 as an Early Decision athlete. I am now worried that I may either lost my admission entirely, or be placed on Academic Probation, which may prevent me from playing my sport.

Here are my first sem grades from senior year:

Health: A
AP Calc BC: B-
English Lit: B-
AP Biology: B
Concert Choir: A
Spanish 2 pt. 1: A

And here are my potential grades for second semester:

AP Calc BC: C
AP Micro: B
Civics: C+/B-(most likely B-)
English: C+/B-(could swing either way)
AP Bio: C+/B- (could swing either way)
Concert Choir: A

I maintained an academic UW GPA of 3.6 prior to this despite my shaky freshman year, and have only gotten 1 C+ throughout high school, that too in a class that was meant for the grade above mine, in which I got an A 2nd semester.

During the latter half of Feb, and all of March, my mother had to go to our home country to take care of her mother, who fell severely ill. During this period, my grades slipped alot, as my father and I were in charge of taking care of my two younger siblings.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

A frightened student

Call them and ask. You may want to call your prospective coach, who likely has seen this before.

My own view is that schools expect some senioritis, a little slip in the GPA, second semester of senior year. Yours is a little more than a little, but from what I’ve read, most folks don’t need to worry until they start getting Ds and Fs.

But don’t take the word of folks posting anonymously on a website, call the school. If they ask what happened, tell them about your mother and all that.
