Will I get rescinded?

I got a letter in my inbox today saying that my final grades weren't as good as my previous grades. They want some kind of written e-mail from me by a certain date to decide what's the proper action to take.

I went from like a A to a B overall so I didn't think it was so bad. This wouldn't have happened anyways if it wasn't for something really crappy that happened in the year. But anyways, am I going to get rescinded? The letter sounded pretty scary...and well, I'm scared.

Thank you all for your input.

Well, if your bad grades are for a reason that was beyond your control, you won’t be punished for it. Just explain to Columbia what happened, and if it’s a legitimate reason, you’ll likely get off the hook.

get your guidance counselor from school to call them as well. Can’t take any chances!

Wait, A to B? I really didn’t think they give warning letters for that. Just to clarify though, you went from, say, all A’s to all B’s?

And I don’t think you’re in danger of being rescinded, those are for people who dropped 2 or more letter grades (A to C). Give them a good reason (sickness, family issues, etc.) and the worst that could happen is them putting you on academic probation for first year (that’s even pretty unlikely)

Also, did they mail you or email you about this?

No, you won’t get rescinded. Just send them a letter apologizing for the lower grades, explaining away any mitigating circumstances, and reiterating your intention to do better and succeed at Columbia.

But there’s no way you’re getting a scary-sounding letter for getting B’s.
