AP Scholar with Distinction
Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

"Notes About the Awards"
The Calculus AB subscore, Music Theory aural subscore and Music Theory nonaural subscore scores are not used in the award calculations.

Oops the question is I have the following scores:

AP Euro History 3
AP Bio 4
AP Chem 4
AP Lit 4
AP Cal AB 5

My average score is 4, but not sure with the notes found on college board on the Cal AB subscore, will I still able to get the AP Scholar with Distinction award?

I believe that the reference to the AB subscore is to the subscore you get on the BC Calc test, i.e. when you take the BC exam and getting a passing score overall and on the AB subscore, it does not count as passing 2 AP exams. However, if you just take the AB exam and pass, that does count as 1 exam.

Thank you SDMomof3. I just received my award in the mail today. I am taking AP Cal BC, AP Econ & AP Physic next May. So, with this subscore restriction, I won’t be able to get National AP scholar (assuming at least all 4s) because Cal AB & BC only counts as 1 AP exam?

I’m never quite sure why schools set up things so students take Calc AB AND BC, since the first 1/2 or more of BC is the same as AB. However, it is two separate classes that you take two exams for, so it counts as two.

Here’s another anomilie. AP Physics C is ONE class. However, students pay for and take TWO exams, one in mechanics and the other in electricity/magnetism. THis DOES count as TWO exams for purposes of the AP Scholar awards.

Interesting. This is the fine prints I saw on College Board, thus the question.

I am taking AP Physics C, so there is still hope to aim for National AP scholar by next year, unfortunately after my college app. I guess AP scholar with distinction is good enough for the awards section. Thanks for the infor.
