Hi everyone!

I am a biological sciences major and am currently in my 2nd year at community college. I have a 4.0 GPA. After this semester I will have finished all of the courses I need on the IGETC. I wanted to transfer to UCI after this year, but I am afraid I can't since I have not completed the classes listed on assist.org. Science classes fill up quickly so I have only completed one chemistry course with lab (not listed on assist.org). Currently, I am in a biology course with lab, and another chemistry course with lab, both of which are on assist.org. I have yet to take any organic chemistry and physics courses and this worries me. Are my chances of being able to transfer low? Could I take one organic chemistry class next semester and another during the summer?

Thank you!

Will you finish all of your pre-requisites by the end of Spring?

You need to complete all of your major prerequisites, preferably before the end of Fall term prior to transfer, to be competitive for admission. Transfer admission for Biological Sciences is getting pretty competitive, with admit rate for 2011 at 38%.

UCI has just changed the TAG requirement for Biological Sciences to include a year of organic chemistry, so not having that completed may put you at a pretty significant disadvantage for regular admission.

Do you suggest that I still apply for TAG and regular admission even if I am not able to finish all of my major prerequisites?

Thank you AskMsSun! I greatly appreciate your feedback.

You can try it, but having those major prereqs done would be better. That’s not to say you would never be admitted without them, but the chances are probably pretty slim.
