I currently go to USC and switched out of the architecture major because it was an AWFUL experience and not what I wanted out of my education.
I got into Rice University but chose USC over Rice originally, and I now want to transfer there because I feel like it will be a better fit for me.
Does getting in and not accepting them hurt my chances of being accepted again? I know Rice is a small school and their admissions might remember me but I’m not sure. Because I will need to create a new common app will they still have my records and old application on file? Should I create an entire new portfolio to apply? Should I call admissions and let them know my interest?
My D transferred out after freshman year. She applied to two or three schools she had applied to the year prior and was not only accepted to all of them, but they honored the original merit package as well. They still had her information on file; she just had to send her freshman year grades. As far as the portfolio, I would call admissions and ask. Good luck!

Thanks! Aldo do you know if your D did she just submit her original application or did she write all new essays?
The only exception would be if you were accepted ED and backed out of that agreement. That would likely result in a denial.
The common app for transfer students does require an essay, so she did have to write another one.
