Let's say, if my Math and W scores are within the Mid 50% range of a school, but my CR scores aren't. Will they reject/defer/waitlist me because of that? assuming that my GPA and ECs are fine... (fine, not great :P)

bumpppppppppppppppp

Just because one of the scores is out of the range doesn’t result in an automatic rejection/deferal/waitlist. They look at your app as a whole. True you’re not going to be as high as some of the other applicants but you have to remember that they must accept some people with scores outside of the range. That’s why its the mid 50% range. Your score could be in the lower 25% range. Just try to make the rest of your app more than fine. It needs to be great. You don’t want to give them reasons to reject you.

It depends on the section. CR is very important for most colleges, including for engineering programs. If it’s far below the college’s norm, colleges may reject you out of concern that you won’t be able to handle the reading and writing that is required at the college no matter what your major will be.

M isn’t as important unless you’re applying to something like an engineering program.

Writing is an unknown as many colleges are not using that for admissions.

^Agree with NSM. CR skills are critical to any college curriculum, so the score on that section is more important. Thus, my D2 just retook her SAT yesterday to try to get that section more within range of the schools she’s interested in applying to.

No one can say that that one factor will make a school accept/deny/WL you. You have to determine whether, given your personal situation, if it’s the best use of your time to prep and retake the SAT to raise that score.
