Is anybody taking Math Level 1 instead of Level 2?! Should I take this first and then take the Level 2? (I'm a junior)

Sorry, what’s the difference between math level 1 and level 2? Isn’t math level 1 SAT1? Thanks :)

I’ve never taken Math Level 1 but I’ve heard it’s very similar to the math section of the SAT’s.

If you want to, I guess you can take Math Level 1 as a prep for Math Level 2. Most schools look for Math Level 2. Also, Level 1 has a lower curve because the content is much easier than Level 2. If you’re ready for Level 2, I’d say just take that one then.

Theres somewhat of a difference between Math Level 1 and Math Level 2. Level 2 covers a wider range of math, up to trigonometry, while Math Level 1 covers more basic math. The Math Level 2 test is seen as the harder, more rigorous test and so a good score on the level 2, compared to a good score on level 1, will be seen as much better by most colleges. However, they are both SAT II tests. I would suggest taking Level 2, since it looks better, but its up to you to decide based on your math skills and the college you want to go to.

Thanks! I am planning to take the Level 2 too but most probably next October! Also what about the percentiles?! I hear that if I take Level 1 and score 780 or more I will be in the 99th percentile when in the Level 2 even with an 800 I will be in the 90th! So does that count as a plus for the Level 1?! Do colleges look more at the percentiles?!

The percentiles don’t really matter. I don’t think colleges really look at them.

If you have already completed some courses that included Pre-calculus and trigonometry, then you should do the Level 2 Math. Do some practice tests from Math Level 2 and if you are able to solve most of the questions then you will know that you are ready.

Agree with ^^^. If you can do pre-calc/ trig then go with math 2.

Math level 2 includes topics normally covered in precalculus and trigonometry courses, so it is suitable for students a year ahead of the usual US high school math sequence. Students not a year ahead of the usual US high school math sequence would take math level 1.

Note that students taking math level 2 tend to be the ones better at math, which is why so many such students score 800 on it.

You can send both, but it is generally counted as only one test for colleges that want to see two or three SAT subject tests.

The students who take the Math Subject Matter tests are “self-selected” - so they tend to be pretty good at math. Take the test seriously - by that I mean practice the tests. Best of luck.

Thanks guys! Well in my country we are 1 year ahead in algebra and geometry but not pre-calc!! So I guess I can wait til next October to take the math 2…

don’t waste your money just take math 2
