I am about to enter my second year at my CC, and I apply for transfer in October for Fall 15, and I don't have a strong EC record. I was a member of the LGBT club, but I missed a third of the meetings because of work, and I'm quitting because it has so much drama and gets so little accomplished, and I never feel welcome to contribute. I was in Anthropology club, but it collapsed due to lack of interest and dearth of ideas for activities. So, now I have nothing. This next school year, I'm in work, class, or taking a much needed break from 8 AM to 6PM except Friday and the weekend, and I take Saturday class, I'm taking 18.5 units, then later 20, and I don't drive a car so getting places takes time. So, I may end up just not having any ECs on my application at all. I'm applying to both CalPolys, SFSU, SDSU, and CSULB. Might add HSU. I do live in state. Current GPA is 3.75. Would a lack of ECs hurt me much?

Work is an EC.

Does the fact that it’s an on campus work study job effect that at all?

Not at all. It’s something that you’re doing in addition to your school curriculum, hence it is extracurricular. A job is a good EC to have. It shows good time management and responsibility.

Your past ECs count as well. The LGBT club and Anthropology club can still be included because you did them. Work is an EC. Schools just want yo see balance in your life and interests. I think you’re fine.
