So my son wants to also apply to Lehigh. It is actually one of his top picks and they have very generous financial aid. But.....

Lehigh is VERY sensative to being a safety school for Ivies. If he lists QB Finalist in his achievements on the Common Application then Lehigh will know he is trying for Ivies, right? Could it actually cause them to not accept him? Lehigh is supposed to be need-blind but I do not know how they react to QB.

That goes for other non QB schools. Will they see finalist listed and actually be negative toward the applicant because it is obvious that a large amount of financial aid will be needed?

Really interesting question SVMMOM…
I don’t think anyone outside of the Lehigh Admissions office knows the answer for sure
However, I don’t believe it would be a cause for rejection since your son most likely has the scores and grades to get in.

I really don’t see how you can make the case that listing QB Finalist would imply your son’s applying to Ivies. Sure, they may be an association between the two, but that doesn’t mean QB Finalist = apply to Ivies.

QB Finalist will only harm you for schools that are need aware - listing that will alert them that this particular applicant comes from a low-income environment, which will likely hurt your chances of getting accepted to that school. However, there are a plethora of great colleges that are need-blind, to the point that I would advise not applying to a need-aware school. So, simply put, need-blind schools are what your son should be looking at.

I guess I meant “higher ranked schools” instead of just Ivies. Lehigh is known for NOT admitting top students because they do not want to be used as a safety.
