As a transfer student (I'm applying this fall) and a psych major I will be missing to of my lower division classes. Psych 1 (only offered at UCR) and psych 12 (my cc has no articulated course for it), I will have to take psych 1 in the fall, and psych 12 the next quarter since psych 1 is a prereq for psych 12.

All other prereqs will be complete.

Does this mean I can not take any other classes until those 2 are complete?

Will I be stuck only taking 1 class at a time until those last two lower division classes are finished?

Disclaimer: I’m an EECS major at Berkeley, and I don’t know UCR’s specific policies… or anything about being a psych major.

I had a LOT of lower division classes to make up after I transferred… here’s some things I found helpful:
- Summer session! Yeah, being stuck in school all summer kinda sucks, but if the classes you need are offered it can help you get ahead and catch up on things fast.
- Double up on classes. This might not work for you, but if you’re already familiar with a pre-req’s material, taking multiple classes from a series together might be possible.
- Look for classes without pre-reqs, or ones that can be taken concurrently. Surely not every upper division course requires psych 1 and 12 to be completed, so look for the ones that don’t require it and take those. You’ll probably also have some non-psych requirements to finish up.
- Figure out if pre-reqs are actually enforced. If they aren’t, you can do terrible things with your schedule and ignore the recommended order of classes if you need to.

If none of that works for you… yeah, you’ll be a bit behind. There’s probably a rule against taking just one course per quarter, so in that case you’d either need to find other requirements you can take at the same time or put random (interesting) classes in your schedule.

There’s no rule that says you have to finish all of your lower division requirements before you can start on your upper division requirements. Each class is going to have their specific prereqs that you need to meet to enroll in that class. If psych 1 or 12, is a prereq for an upper division class you won’t be able to enroll in that upper div. If it isn’t, you’ll be able to enroll in the upper div class and complete any lower division classes at the same time. Go through the UC’s course catalog to get a sense of how many classes you’ll have to take without first completing psych 1/12.

You should be okay if its only two classes. You’ll take them your first quarter
