Will more deferred students be accepted regular decision

fyi guys, i talked to my rep and they havent even begun rereading the apps of deferred candidates.

Are they ****ing serious? That's completely ridiculous. Not that I had my hopes up or anything (I'm completely expecting rejection), but it's not as though there are that many of us this year. What was the point in even deferring?

^^ caronant....seriously?!?! i almost can't believe that!!
although i sort of can...if they're still only taking 10%, that means there will be a lucky 14. let's hope they take more :(

That can't be true.

it doesn't mean we're all going to get rejected. think about how many they went through in two months...they can get through 140 easily in probably less than five days. its also not that uncommon for them to start this late, according to my counselor, especially since theres such a small number of us. but its not a good feeling anyway knowing theres no decision yet..

hmmmm...That's really weird. When I was in contact with my regional rep about handing in supplements they said that they were reviewing deferred applications during the third week(ish) of february...

have you talked to them since and heard anything about it?

does anyone think that were you live has anything to do with if you get in?

cowgirl, I'd bet on it.
If an applicant comes from a place where Dartmouth gets few (if any) students, that applicant might have the edge if all other aspects of the applications are similar.

Thanks not sure if that helps or hurts me. I'm from a small town in the Midwest.

I know someone who went to a top school who spoke to an adcom and they said they geographically discriminate frequently.

EXPECTED: Thanks for the info

There is a new admisssion officer who may want to look hard at a smaller, core group of deferred candidates in the RD round with an eye toward accepting some of them (so as to not have to accept off a wait list, which they did last year). Given that deferred candidates have a propensity to accept a D offer of admission, they could be looked at by the adcom as a safe bet from a yield standpoint. It will all depend on the final mix and what that looks like.

A deferral can serve two purposes -- a slow, polite rejection (H5mom's point) or a safe bet in the pinch from a yield standpoint.

I would remain encouraged until the axe falls.

i hope it's your idea!!

^^ i can see the axe.

I was deferred and am not a legacy, I am pretty sure that they did not think that would prompt a donation at all. does this mean I have a good chance?
also does anyone know when RD admission decisions come out?

March 31st 5pm

Are there any other schools that defer a small (>10%) portion? I'm curious as to how the deferred applicants fare in the RD round. The fact that over 300 less kids were deferred this year, compared to last year, has provided me with a semblance of hope. Who knows if it's at all warranted.

^^ agreed. the small bit of hope i've been holding on to!!

anybody getting nervous??
