Deferred.

Hey guys!

First off, CONGRATULATIONS to all those accepted! I'm a Dartmouth ED'er and just got deferred. Life's rough, I know. To any of you out there who were deferred or know someone who has been deferred, what are you planning on doing/updating the school on? How many kids really get accepted of the 'deferred' list? How does the deferred admissions work (are we compared with all the regular decision apps or just other deferred kids)?

Any insight would be awesome, thanks so much everyone!

Hey i got deferred too. I check the website and it said that 1/3 of ED applicants are deferred and about 10% of deferred applicants are accepted rd.

Deferred applicants are compared with the whole applicant pool.

Where did you read that?

The most recent percentage I’ve been able to find was from this article: http://thedartmouth.com/2009/01/05/news/ed

only 140 kids?? that makes me sad =\
oh well…time to start my RD apps!

Hi guys,

I got deferred this morning (I live in Asia). Dartmouth was and still is my dream school. Is there anything I can do to increase my chances as a deferred candidate?

Wait a minute, is it a third (like 600 people) or 9% or so (140 in that case)?

wait i misread. if they deferred 140 kids that means 14 got in regular…wow

[Deferred & Waitlisted](<a href=“Apply to Dartmouth | Dartmouth Admissions”>Apply to Dartmouth | Dartmouth Admissions)

this is so upsetting…i dont know what i can send in now to make my application unique. plus, i know that the regular decision pool is significantly larger and a bit stronger so i dont know if i could really compare to the other applicants

To all those deferred:

Don’t feel discouraged. Dartmouth accepted about 400 applications and we can assume 120 of those were recruited athletes. A deferral really means that they don’t want to get rid of you (yet). You should feel good about your deferral considering only 200-600 people were deferred, 400 were accepted, and the other 800 were flat out rejected.
