Hey, So I decided that I really wanted to go to Carleton College and I accepted. I'm a straight A student. Top 5% in the class. These this semester, I got some horrible news. my aunt has cancer and all this chaos went down, I failed a test, and I pulled a C- in the class. I'm afraid that my admission will be rescinded. Should I fear? What can I do?

DD is in class of 2017-her sr year, one of her grades ended up being a C-a lot of travel around college visits led to missed deadline on a class project and the C. You are probably fine, as your justification is more understandable than hers, but it never hurts to send an explanation and ask any questions. Anyone can find themselves with problems, but usually it goes better if you recognize the issue and don’t look like you are covering up. My best wishes to your aunt, and to you.

Send them an email straight away now, stating that there has been a diagnosis of a major (possibly terminal) illness in the family and the resulting effect that had on your family and family life and flow oneto school that resulted in this grade. Include any sort of appropriate proof if you have it (avoid looking like you made it up to explain a poor grade). As long as your grades go up again after this and therefore reflect this event it shouldn’t be a problem.

Contact them about it though!! Do not say nothing and let them receive your results with no explanation.
