i was accepted to cal and ucla and am planning to attend ucla.
but last semester, my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer and my whole family had a really tough time.
consequently, all of my grades had suffered and i got a d on ap stat class.
i sent an email and reported my grades last sunday.

do u guys think my admission would get rescinded for sure?

i wrote like one page long explanation about what exactly happened and sent it too.

thanks!

Get your GC to write the college, too. That should help. Colleges do understand when grades drop due to crises and other major problems.

I hope your dad is recovering well.

Significant family/personal issues make sufficient excuses for poor grades so long as you explain your situation to the college. Which you did, in a timely and thorough manner. You should be fine.

Best wishes to you dad, you, and your family, and good luck with admissions.

Westmere

Yea, too bad your AP stat teacher couldn't have been more understanding at the time and given you a C-. Couldn't you have appealled that? I'm sure he was aware of your circumstances.

no you're not screwed. it's not like you completely slacked off.

The whole rescinsion thing usually only applies to students who completely slack off just because they already got into college.

Given the circumstances (cancer is always a huge deal for the family, and colleges will understand that), I highly doubt you will have any trouble with Cal and UCLA. I don't work at the university so I can't say for sure, but I would be seriously shocked if they gave you problems about it.
