I've had my heart set on going to NYU since I was really young and I just finished my freshman year of high school. I finished with a 3.2 GPA, getting mostly A's and B's and a C in Geometry which was what mainly affected my GPA. I know it's a bit premature to be so set on a university, but I really want to go to NYU and I've looked through the threads and was just wondering what tips students had on getting accepted. Also, do you think my freshman year grades will greatly affect my chances? I know they aren't very good, but I'm hoping that if I can get better grades in my following years of high school it won't really affect my application. I'm also homeschooled, by the way.

Freshman grades aren’t that important. You can improve in the next two years. If you have a strong upward trajectory they will be all but ignored.

Impossible to say whether or not grades will tip the scale in your favor when you come to apply because you are only a freshman. Don’t worry too much about college. Try hard in school and shoot for a better GPA. Don’t get too set on one college because you could probably be happy at any number of places.
