Hi all, I was recently accepted to a top 20 US News college. I have been playing for my school’s varsity baseball team all four years, and am currently a starter.Additionally, baseball was a key extracurricular for me throughout highschool and during my application, having won a county and a regional high school championship with my team as well as being nominated to the all stars game for two yrs. I am planning to give up my spot on the team because I was offered a job recently and the hours just arent flexible. With AP tests coming up as well, I would need to stop playing if i take the job due to the strict time commitment baseball requires… What do you all think?
No. You risk getting rescinded if your grades drop to D’s or F’s, get arrested, or are discovered to have lied on your application. Whether dropping baseball at this point is the right thing to do to your team is a different question, but for admissions, no big deal.
You should be fine - it’s usually academics (failing classes or getting a bunch of Cs) or conduct (suspension, lying on your app, etc.) reasons that people get rescinded for.
Unless you are a recruited basketball player the answer is no. You truthfully filled out your application and since that point your options have changed and you subsequently swapped basketball out for a job. Given the cost of college, it is perfectly reasonable to decide to work and try to get save up some money before the fall.
