If one were to prep for the AP exam and take the SAT II around the same time, would one be ready for both?

Yeah definitely.. I'm prepping for AP Bio and APUSH and taking the SATII for both in May, a week before my AP exams. I think using just an AP prep book is better brecause they are usually more in depth and analytical.

Watch out for certain features on the SAT II that is not on the AP, though. For example, I was thrown off by the _______ because _______ section on the Chemistry test.

Yes, for sure--this is a great strategy and one that I would recommend to anyone. Of course, as a778999, suggests, be sure to familiarize yourself with the format of the particular SAT II test, but you will probably not have to do a whole lot (or any, if you are like me) of extra studying. I did this, and it worked out great for me. The only downside was that I was kind of tired after a week of AP tests, but it all worked out in the end.

i took apush and sat ii u.s. one day apart last year...there was a repeated question! well, not an exact repeat, but it asked the same thing about the same chart. they're clearly similar...for the histories, APs tend to be a little bit more about trends and SATs a little more about specific facts, but no huge difference.

it sort of worked for me...by May, I had stopped caring...but I did decently...
