Will putting political science as my prospective major decrease my chances of getting accepted? I assume there must be a ton of people applying as poli sci, so that's why I ask. Would putting "undecided" help at all or would that be bad too? Should I just put something else like biology (the other major I'm interested in)? Need an answer ASAP

They can only accept so many people per major so in a way yes, but that doesn’t mean you should switch you major just to get into the university.

Well I’m interested in doing either poli sci or bio, so I guess I could put either one. I’d prefer to put the one that I will give me the best chance of admission. It’s not like Im putting something totally random that I hate just to get in

BUMP!!!
History is another thing I’d consider. I put history, poli sci, and biology for my future interests on the common app. Is history just as hard to get into as poli sci at GWU?

As a student and as a sibling of a senior student at GW, I can tell you that it’s irrelevant what you put. They look at your apps as a whole. It is one of the few schools that lookat all the application rather than just our stats or GPA, so put whatever you are interested in, it won’t affect the outcome.

Sweet thanks! Another question, is it harder to get into Elliot as opposed to Columbian?

BUmps…

Yes, harder to get into Elliot.

If you’re so worried, apply to Columbian undeclared.

I heard undeclared was bad too, and that you should always put a major down

Yes, it is harder to get into Elliott than into Columbian, but it is not easier to transfer into Elliott because you will have to take a great deal of courses which you may have avoided if you would apply to Elliott in the 1st place.
Good Luck!

Hmmmm so what are the average stats roughly for Elliot?

They are similar to Columbian, it is more like your “potfolio” is more important, your Elliott geared essays, ECs that are more relevant to Elliott.

Is an internal transfer like a whole application process? Or is it if you fulfill the minimum requirements for a transfer (3.4 gpa, certain courses, etc), you automatically get in?

You’re asking about Elliott–do you have a third major in mind? Political science is a CCAS major, so either political science or biology would still be CCAS.

I don’t know why it got erased my comment, but here it goes again: it is an internal transfer but it is not automatic, you have to be accepted by Elliott. You need to fulfill all of their requirement courses which is about 45 credits

@ desk potato, yeah I was originally considering poli sci, but then I began to realize that maybe international affairs is more my thing

I guess it would be okay if I went to columbian but took some courses at Elliot. Is that usually possible?

some courses offered are for majors only, but many of the prereqs arenot, with the exeption of intro to Int’l affairs. so really you need to contact Elliott and decide if you are up to take all the courses at the risk of not being accepted. They don’t acccept students over 60 credits either btw

Zoidberg: Your choices seem to be all over the place & changing with each post, so maybe you’d be better off putting down “undecided” on your application. It doesn’t really seem like you’ve decided at this point & that’s perfectly OK.

Isn’t undecided not a good idea tho?
