Will quitting this extracurricular hurt my chances?

I was lucky enough to play on the varsity team for a sport last year (freshman year). Although I originally wanted to continue this year, I don't think I will have enough time to participate this season (sophomore year). However, I will hopefully be joining a varsity team (not that the difference varsity or jr varsity really matters) for a different sport next year (junior year). Will quitting the team hurt my chances later on when I apply to my dream school, Columbia?

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed the sport. But, I think it will affect my grades if I play this season. The only reason I would take a risk and participate would be if it would hurt my chances later on.

(If quitting would hurt my chances later on)

bump…

Do what will make you happy. If you are doing an activity just to get into a college, probably not the best reason

Crizello is right, do what you want to.

Also, it depends on how drastically you think it will affect your grades.

Although a sport is a good EC to have, there are plenty of other EC that look just as good as a sport. You could pick up some of those, like volunteering, or creating something big.

It’s really what you want to do more so than what you think a college wants to see.

Like others have said the most important thing is to stay happy, because if we are being honest with ivies you can do everything right and still get rejected. That being said depending on how many other ECs you have it may be a good idea to remain in the EC, of course if it is hurting your grades you should consider quitting, grades are more important then ECs.
