Will re-apply hurt my admission chance?

I was rejected by Exeter last year because of the test scores, I did everything well except the tests. I will try again this year and will it hurt my chance?

No, not at all. If anything, it will improve your chances! Re-applying shows that you are serious about going to Exeter, so if they accept you, you won’t turn them down and affect their yield. It also shows commitment and, if your application is stronger than it was last year, it shows that you can improve at things.

I don’t think they care much if you applied before. I think people on this board oversell the “commitment to the school” card because it is comforting. they probably liked you a lot the first time, but they have to reject a lot of great kids that they like. The AO’s who remember your file may be happy to see your name in the pool again, but if the new pool also contains the kid who cured cancer at age 13, they won’t care much about your “commitment to the school.” Their job is to create the strongest class possible. it’s what you can offer the school compared to everyone else who wants a spot in the school that matters. Don’t over think it. It’s just that competitive out there.
