I'm at college and my parents might be out of town for a few weeks. Would they disclose that information to me if I called and asked?

if you're already at college, are you transferring?

some schools will tell you over the phone, others will not. to be told over the phone, i think you have to provide your application ID number and social security number so they know it's actually you calling

It may seem like you are pressuring them and they'll hate it OR they may see it as you really are interested in attending there if you call. But the answer is like cat said.

Yes, I am applying for transfer.

Well I could definitely provide them with any necessary information. So they may or may not do it, hmm.

In response to "It may seem like you are pressuring them and they'll hate it OR they may see it as you really are interested in attending there if you call.", what do you mean by "hate it" and pressuring them? Are you saying it could maybe hurt my odds by calling about it?

So is it bad to even ask?

Normally what I've found is that it's best to wait until they've sent out their decisions, and call if the date has passed for when you're supposed to find out. I had to do this with my college as well, and that's what they told me. However, like the others have said, different college do different things.

Hmm...I don't want to be annoying. But with my parents out of town who knows when I'll find out if I wait.

archcommus: Why not email them now, explain the situation, and tell them to send future mailings to your school address? You probably provided that on the application too, right?

Why should your parents being out of town matter? They should be sending their transfer decisions to you, not your parents

I listed my permanent address for everything.

I guess I will just call them and ask for it to be mailed here. I kind of liked the idea of calling, though, heh...find out sooner!

I was in a Christian Baptist University chat room a little while ago and someone in the chat asked an AdCom if she got in, the AdCom looked up her file and he called her during the chat and told her she was accepted.

Lol wow....nice!
The nice thing about calling is that, you can find out the day or the day after they have made the decision, instead of waiting for them to mail the letter, and another few days for the letter to arrive.

Hmm, maybe they don't even mind if you call. After all they do say you can call anytime to "check the status of your application."

won't it be bad if they had to say: u are rejected.....sigh

Yes that would be awful to hear. And the lady would probably hate having to say it.

Maybe I'll just do it. They may have no issue with it and I could possibly find out sooner.

Well I called twice this week and both times she said my app is complete and under review, and that the decision will probably be mailed out next week. So I'm guessing, if the decision WAS already made, she would've told me right then and there.

So if you're wondering if your school will tell you, give it a shot!
