Will severe lack of interest be a big problem in college?

I've come to the realization, that the only reason I'm doing well in school right now is because it is ridiculously easy. I hardly ever do homework, sleep through half of my classes, and the last time I studied was in the third grade. The problem is, is that I'm not interested at all. I know several people who like to learn and I am not one of them. I could really care less, but I want to earn a good living, so I can do the things I actually like doing (like lethargically laying around the house all day doing nothing).

What I'm worried about, is I'm going to be taking college classes next year, and several of them require a lot of diligent reading of boring senseless crap. How hard will it be to adjust? My fear of college is not whether or not it will be too hard, but that I will get tired of the shear effort needed and drop out. Everything comes second to my laziness it seems, even the things I love. I don't know how many times I woke up in the morning wanting to play guitar, but I just laid there staring at it because I was too lazy to go get it. Any suggestions on how to loose my apathy?

Your 2nd paragraph is what it is like for me now + the laziness and lack of interest of the 1st paragraph.

In college, you’ll be able to take classes you might be interested in and you get to expand your horizons in your spare time, so that is something you should be looking forward to.

From what I’ve learned, school is easier to swallow when you force yourself to learn the material rather tan know it. Like i said, learn everything you can. Go on Wikipedia some times, and just read random articles and just learn. I’m telling you, once you start learning, and stop just knowing, you’ll love school.

I assure you.

^This. Enjoy learning and school will become easier.

Thank you, I’ll put an effort in it. I really hope I get over this before my concurrent starts next year.

Hehehe tipa.

High school is easy? You are half-assing your senior year? Not doing much nowadays?

Son, you will be in for a rude surprise when you get to college. . .

Anyways. . .I was in your shoes once. (And I still drift aimlessly in college. . .at least for now.)

Here’s THE question: Do you have any passions/subject areas/hobbies you love?

Yes art (drawing, performing, playing music), but even that I have a tendency to get burned out on. Everything that requires mental effort seems to be and issue, it’s all just so tiresome. I would like to just sit around the house all day listening to music/playing video games and getting fat on potato chips.

Also this isn’t just a recent development. I’ve been like this ever since I got out of elementary school. My Brother is very similar to me (except smarter) and he ended up dropping out of college because he got tired of the work. I don’t want to end up like him. On top of the laziness, I have a big fear of failure, which I think has kept me going so far. In situations I challenged in however, i normally make excuses to myself that it’s a waste of time and just quit (which for some reason doesn’t equate to failure in my mind, unless I’m quitting on someone else)

Also, by taking college classes next year, I meant that I’m enrolling in a concurrent program (I’m only a sophomore). Our school is too small/dumb to offer AP classes, so the solution is that juniors and seniors can take classes at the nearby university for credit. The first class I’m going to be taking is American history, and I HATE it. On top of that, there’s a lot of reading, which I most certainly won’t do. I think this class might screw up my record. I’m not worried about college once I get to my major, it’s all the prerequisites that have me freaking out.

enjoy your future fast food job bud!

why yes, i would like fries with that

^sigh I really hope this doesn’t happen…
