Will Summer Classes Increase My Chances into ECON?

hey guys, I was recently accepted to College of natural resources as transfer student.

However, my main goal is to major in econ, whether it's transfer or double

so my question is: Since we declare our majors the first semester of school, if I take summer classes and finish all the prereqs required to get into the economics department ( while most of the economics majors haven't taken the classes yet)

will i have a chance to transfer to the economics department?
or is my only option to double major/simultaneous majors?

bumppppp any help would be appreciated. thanks!

does anyone know? i know this might be annoying but i really need advice

You are going to have a problem doing a double major due to unit cap at the UCB. Depending on the major and the fact that most majors require 7-14 classes of upper divison work, you are going to run into the unit cap for the college. If that is the case the college will not allow you to double major. Some majors that have little requirements this may allow you to double major, but I would double check with UCB before doing anything. Else, they might kick you out of college just based on the fact that you have too many units. Just because you taken the required classes for the major does mean they will award the degree unless you are in the major. I would look at how many unit will you need to finish your current major, how many unit do you have right now, and how many unit you will need for the additional major. Add all the units up and see if you are under the unit cap.

hope this helps!

for double majors the unit cap does not apply as long as you finish in 9 semesters in all institutions attended. so if you did 4 semesters at the school you’re at now. then that means you’ll have 5 semesters at cal (not including summer)

i’m sorry bruinsvielle and durianontop can you further elaborate on that? do i have to do 7-14 more upper division classes if I’m a transfer? what if I’ve already transfered over 100 units? so whats stopping me is going to the unit cap? not anything else?

I’m so confused and it would be great if you could explain more…thanks!

econ is in the college of letters and science
environmental econ and policy is in the college of natural resources.

yes, that I totally understand,
but my main goal is to transfer from the college of cnr to the college of letters and science, therefore applying to economics my second semester at berkeley.:

You will be considered for change of college only if (not counting college credit you earnedwhile still in high school) you:

Have completed at least one semester of coursework at UC Berkeley
Have completed fewer than 90 units at the end of your last term before admission to the
College
Are able to complete your degree within the College’s unit limit
Have completed Entry Level Writing and the first half of the Reading and Composition
requirement (by the end of your freshman year)
Have also completed the second half of the Reading and Composition requirement (by the
end of your sophomore year)
Are eligible to declare a major (if you have completed 60 units or more)
Please note: Grade Point Average is also a significant consideration for admission to
the College. Students who meet all other criteria and have a 3.0 or higher GPA are
more likely to be approved.

why does it sound so easy? I Know it can’t be this simple…what are some of the restrictions/limitations to transferring from one college to another?

unit cap? classes?
