Will taking SAT subject tests in August negatively impact my son's image?

Our college admission advisor suggested my son to cancel his registered SAT subject Tests in August, since that will negatively impact his image in college admission process. The reason given was that, there are so many kids haven’t taken the main SAT test yet.

Want to confirm from experts before we cancel, and we appreciate any suggestion and advice.

If he intends on applying to highly selective schools that recommend subject tests, I would still take the tests. Will be interested to hear what others think.

Is he a rising senior or younger?

Not an expert, but that sounds like the advisor is overthinking it. Especially with so many schools going SAT optional, it doesn’t seem they’d scrutinize this.

My son is taking subject tests in August. He had been registered for the June sitting which was cancelled. Subject tests should be taken as soon as possible after completing the subject matter. Taking them in August is completely natural. Besides they will be administered in a different room from the regular SAT to allow people to leave after completing the shorter test(s). I don’t think a center’s capacity to administer the complete SAT will be diminished by anyone taking subject tests the same date. Of course your advisor may have more information about the particular test site that you have chosen.

@ccprofandmomof2, he is a rising senior

Taking an offered test at the optimal time based on taking the course and test availability will “negatively impact his image“?

One of the dumber things I’ve heard from an “admissions counselor”, and I’ve heard quite a few.
