will they hate me for not taking AP physics?

So I'm gonna be a junior in a week, and I'm wondering if MIT would hate me if I did not take AP physics by the time I apply. I have indeed taken a physics gt course (in 10th grade) but I'm not quite certain that I want to take AP...I am going to be taking AP chem junior year, and definitely AP bio senior year.

You are not required to take AP Physics. MIT Admissions looks to see that you have taken a challenging courseload, but it sounds as if you're probably doing that anyway. You may want to read this old post from Ben Jones for some perspective on APs and MIT admissions. Ben's question to ask yourself: "Would you be taking it because you genuinely want to, or simply because you think it will get you into college?" Take AP Physics if you want to do so, not because you think MIT won't consider your application favorably otherwise.

You wouldn't believe it. Whenever Ben sees an applicant that hasn't taken AP physics, it puts him in a bad mood. Seriously, what kind of good student hasn't taken it? He proceeds to reject the applicant as well as any applicants with similar-sounding names out of spite. The gall of such people, applying without AP Physics credit.
[/humor]

It's completely okay to not have taken AP physics. See mootmom's post. The wording of the thread was just so intriguing. Hate is such a strong word. :P.

Best wishes in your application process!

I didn't take AP Physics. Ugh, I hate physics.

I came to MIT having taken a grand total of one semester of "Foundations in Physical Science", which consisted mainly of rolling balls down inclined planes and timing them. :)

They will absolutely hate you, and your children, and your children's children, by which I mean you're being silly.

They won't hate you, but remember what they look for when they look at course load is how much you took w.r.t. how much your school offers. They want to you have taken advantage of what ur school offers.

"So I'm gonna be a [senior] in a week, and I'm wondering if MIT would hate me if I did not take AP physics by the time I [graduate]. I have indeed taken a physics gt course (in 10th grade) but I'm not quite certain that I want to take AP...I [have taken] AP chem junior year, and definitely AP bio [as well, and I look forward to] senior year."

lol -_-

Anyways, the engineering bit is in all serious-ness.

Although, in other respects, I am already fully interested in a rigorous science courseload. AP Physics will probably be replacing Human Anatomy/Physiology, but even though I am a biology buff, there's something I find revolting in humans that I can't quite put my finger on.. o_0 and I mean that quite literally.

haha, i took Anatomy instead of AP Physics simply because I wasn't looking forward to being in a class with eight other guys and no girls. One of the guys was seriously stalking me, which I found rather disturbing. Besides which, I was already taking 4 APs which was really freaking my high school out, and I think that 5 would have sent them off the edge. In retrospect, though, I probably should have taken Physics, if not AP then regular. Although,,,sending my GCs off the edge might have been mildly interesting! :)
