Will they read my resume?

This is perhaps irrationality stemming from anxiety: but I’ve been getting worked up over whether or not the folks at admissions will read my resume - I sent it along with the rest of my paper application, and clearly wrote “Refer Resume” next to the honours question and mentioned it under supplementary data.

I think why I’m concerned is because it’s not a standard Penn document…it’s my own addition: will the adcoms read it? And when they gather in a committee, would they make copies of it for all to read? It’s really crucial to my chances…

they'd better; i didn't fill in that part of the application sheet and told them to refer to my resume. since they said they had my whole application, i assume they'll recognize its validity

I think they'll read it. But it definitely said to list some of your honors / activities on the page. And then, if you felt it was necessary, attach a resume. Tsk tsk, follow directions!

Well there was no space for honours - we were asked to use a separate sheet! I did list the top 6 ECs in the space provided though...

I'm looking at the paper app right now (I did it by hand before typing it up online) and I'll quote:

"Please respond to items 1-4 directly on this form. While supplemental listing or an activities resume can be submitted, they may not be substituted for completion of items 1-4 on this form (That part was in bold). Please feel free to supplementyour application with a more detailed description of the actiivity, award, or work/travel exerpeince of greatest importance to you"

Question one is activities. Question two is awards and special honors. Question 3 is work experience. And Four is that lovable 'What do you do for fun' / 'Pick a UPenn professor' combo.

But #2 clearly states..."on a separate sheet of paper" - so I wrote "Refer resume" against that....since there's no space in the Penn form anyway

maybe we have different applications then. Because my #2...doesnt say what yours does.

Well mine is the international form...perhaps that's a difference

I did the international form too... and I also attached a resume with my activities, honors, community service, etc.

I don't think there will be any problem as this may fall under the category of supp material so they will surely read it! At least I hope so! ;)

I attached a resume and filled in all of the application. I'm assuming they'd read it. When they look at your information it's all sitting there so I don't see why they'd ignore your resume. It's right there. At least, I'm hoping they wouldn't ignore it.........

I get the distincy impression that schools like UPenn or Brown would spend far more time reading an application and all things attached than say....Penn State or U Maryland would. Just a thought. You all worry too much.

i was under the impression they preferred to read stuff they put on their application...

Sure, they like to read what's on their application: but for honours and awards they've specifically requested us to submit an additional sheet.

did they say you could? or did they request?

Question 2 of form 1B on the intl. form reads - "On a separate sheet of paper, please list any special honours, awards or prizes....."
