Will this affect my admission?

So my GPA is 2.64 now, I'm looking to transfer to UCM.SC,R, or possible D or I in Fall 2015. My transcript included 2 Fs; one from a Music class another from Math 1B calculus. I'm retaking both this Fall (2013) and working towards A in both which should get my GPA to 2.97, but I'm scared that I won't be able to put in the new grades until after January 2015 (during the supplement process). Till then the admissions will have my transcripts which will have the Fs in them, will they base the decision on this? Or you think they might wait until I submit my Fall 2013 grades and then make the choice? and also is my GPA ok? for the schools I've listed? Major:Biology

It’s very unlikely you’ll be getting into any of those schools with those grades. I

They’ll take Fall 2013 grades into account when you update your application in January.

You have a chance at UC Merced and Riverside, but not at Davis or Santa Cruz, and that’s even assuming that you’ll raise your gpa to 2.97. I hate to be blunt, but that’s what I think.

I’m pretty sure Biology is impacted at just about every UC? And I’m almost positive none of them would take you at 2.97, even Merced. But I could be wrong.

Thanks guys, well no problem it’s better to know now than later, I can keep a state school or two as backup. Anyway 2.97 was the GPA considering those are the only two class I ace, if at all, thru Spring 2015, I’ll also be taking a few other transferable classes (one other in Fall 2014), hopefully I’ll get a 3.0+ before the supplement due date or at least by Winter 2015.

Do you have enough broad prereqs to change your major to something less impacted? I met a guy a couple days ago who changed his major just last week, dropped his Fall classes and is crashing 3 new ones that apply to his major. If you can get somewhere just over 3.0 and take on an easier major, Merced and the like will be easier to get into. Take like 19 units, get all As this Fall.

But that’s if you’d interested in another major.

I’m taking 15 units this Fall, if I get As in all of em, I’ll get a 3.02. Then I also got Winter and Spring to take courses. Yes yes I’m looking into such major that might be bio related but no too off. And no my prereqs around that broad, its just Bio, Chem, English, Math, and Physics the rest are GE and I did take a few programming classes, thats about it. I’m guessing I have no shot at even Chemistry major.

I was told by my friend’s sister I might have a shot at Riverside with 2.8 for Bio major. She used to study in the same CCC I currently go to, and she transferred to Riverside with sub-3.0 gpa for Bio major. Going back to my original question: my only concern is when I apply I will have a F in Math (its the second one in calculus series, first one I got a B) and Music and my gpa will be 2.64, I will be retaking and submitting the new grades in supplement. So when the make the decision they will consider that I replaced the Fs and my higher gpa right? I’m curious cause they don’t look into Winter or Spring grades when they make the decision, so will it be like that for Fall or do they only make decision after Fall grades are looked into, because if they decide based only prior to my Fall 2014 gpa…then I’m doomed :frowning:

The decisions will likely be made based on the grades in your January update.

most UC’s will not look at transfer applicant until the mid-january update… good luck getting into a UC.

Yeah that’s exactly what I wanted to know! Thanks people!
