will this be an issue?

I am currently a second year community college student at American River College in Sacramento, California. The problem being due to the fact that I changed my major at the end of last school year and also am starting in remedial math and English courses I will be at this school for 4-6 years. I am currently working on an associates in social science “which I am actually almost completed with” but am also trying to transfer to double major in philosophy and theology or religious studies this would depend on if I attend a public or private school. I was also thinking about adding a minor in a science course but am not so sure of that yet. Where I am looking into transferring to is either one of the catholic seminaries sponsored by the Sacramento diocese (St. Patrick’s in Menlo Park and Mt. Angel in St. Benedict, Oregon) but from what I am aware the diocese occasionally tells transfer students to complete their bachelors at a university before entering the seminary. so because that is the case and specific transfer courses are not needed to get accepted into the seminary I have been looking into the UC system and Sacramento State as my second options “i would prefer to attend a UC over a CSU” now I am aware my gpa is slightly problematic as of right now due to the fact I got a few Ds last school year that is something I am working on and am repeating classes or removing classes from my previous major I struggled with from my transcript. I do know for a fact that I have the intelligence and work ethic to improve everything and complete everything to the university and community colleges request although I will likely need tutoring to learn study skills I missed in high school. Would schools such as Davis or Berkeley reject me in a few years for their philosophy department if I meet their academic requirements because of the amount of time it took me to work myself out of the hole I created for myself in middle school and high school?

UCs and CSUs don’t care how long it took to earn the credits they require but, there is no good reason to strand yourself at AR for 4-6 years, particularly when you are close to earning an AA. I would suggest you contact one of the seminaries you are interested in and ask them how you get there from where you are today. You shouldn’t ‘think they might occasionally’ anything… If they suggest you go to a public college and earn a BA in XYZ - do that. i am unaware of any college that will let you declare a double major or a minor on your transfer application. You do those once you are established at the institution. You can pick up a minor in a field that interests you. Since Sac is your local CSU - you can get into most majors with a little better than a 2.0 gpa. You could spend a year or two boosting your GPA and meeting UCDs TAG requirements but, to what end? I would focus on one major and perhaps a minor so your workload is manageable and you can get on with the rest of your life - presumably following your calling to the priesthood.

College graduation does not conclude your window for learning new things. You can take courses you are interested in, pursue a second bachelors or an advanced degree whenever you like so, don’t feel like this is your only shot at learning.
