I happen to have met a Harvard interviewer from a few cities away a while back at a local event. We spoke a lot and he really liked me. We’ve kept in touch and now (my REA Harvard interview is next Saturday) he is insisting on calling up my local interviewer to say some nice things about me before or after the interview. I’m saying he shouldn’t, as it’ll really only raise expectations or come off as him telling them what to think etc…but he wants to help. I hate when people “utilize connections” but he doesn’t know my family or anything like that, he just thinks I’d be a genuinely good fit for the school. Is it a bad call to have him contact my interviewer? Could it help to have him call the admissions department directly? Need your unbiased thoughts…thanks CC! My journey is almost over and you’ve been a great help.
See how your alumni interview actually goes and make a judgement-call after the fact.
If you feel strongly about how positive your interview went, there’s really no need for the other interviewer to contact your actual interviewer. However, if you have doubts about how your interview went, then I would contact the interviewer you know and have them FAX a letter to Admissions on your behalf, which will function as a second interview report.
