Will this hurt my application?

I'm deciding my schedule for junior year. I'm planning on taking 4 APs, 2 honors, and an elective. However, I could possibility switch Spanish 5 honors to ib Spanish. It's my first year taking very advanced classes and I don't want to stress myself out. Will it look bad if I take one honors class instead of the ib version? I'm looking at schools like uva, William and Mary, penn, etc.

Thanks!!!

It’s fine.

Your application is in pain.

If you are looking at elite schools, the more challenging the class, the better for your resume. It depends too on how many extra curricular activities you have. IF you are taking AP/IB vs. honors, its always better though to take the harder class in a science or math. It also depends on whether or not you need the “bump” in your GPA, which an IB class will give you.

Don’t worry, it doesn’t matter. 4APs and 2 Honors is great. (You really only need a total of 6-8 APs. A good thing to do, for instance, is to take Calc AB junior year, then calc 2 and calc 3 at a local college senior year if there’s one nearby and you’re allowed to dual enroll. Or AP history, then college history including one sophomore-level class. This would depend on what you like to do, what you hope to major in, etc. Your schedule needs to be coherent rather than “'everything but the kitchen sink”.)
Take Spanish 5H. Most schools will consider that quite good. Just check with your guidance counselor that s/he’ll check “most rigorous schedule” on your application.

@MYOS1634 it’s a requirment to take pre-ib pre calc before ap calculus! I’m planning on my schedule to be like this…

@ZBD5421 My school weights IB/AP and Honors the same (I know it’s weird). I do a lot of extracurricular activities which is another reason I don’t want to stress myself out too much. It’s just the way it looks on the transcript. I don’t know if you consider those schools I mentioned an “elite school.” I live in VA so I’m instate for two of them.

@Bouncer really?

It was just an example - I hadn’t seen your post re: your schedule.
Note that Physics B will no longer exist starting next year, and will be replaced with Physics 1 and Physics 2. See with your counselor which one you should take senior year.
Spanish 5H is perfectly fine. Don’t worry about it.
Spanish 6 will show more mastery and commitment than APES, and will be much rarer, but wouldn’t be a dealbreaker.

@MYOS1634 yeah that’s what I was thinking with the spanish 6. The only thing is for the past years Spanish 6 and AP Calculus are always the same block and I thinking choosing AP Calc would be better for me.

If there’s a scheduling conflict, make sure you put it down on the bullet point list for your counselor. If you’re thinking of economics or any stem major, yes calc would be better.

k great thanks! @MYOS1634
