Hi everyone, I have just finished my first year of CC and I will be applying for UCB/UCLA in Fall 10 but I have a question regarding my GPA. I am planning to majoring in EECS for UCB or computer science and engineering for UCLA. I have a full plan for my transfer and I will be able to complete all major prerequisites (including CS61B for UCB), units, and 4 GE classes. Before my summer grades are counted, i am a 4.0 student. But i got an F from my psychology class in summer. so then my GPA will suddenly drop to around 3.6. I have heard about that "F" grade can be replaced if I retake the class again. But I am gonna apply in the coming fall, therefore I still need to put my "F" into the application because I am retaking psychology in the coming Fall semester. Do colleges really consider my application based on my grades and GPA before "SPRING 10" ? Because by the time I submitted the application, my psychology grade has not been replaced yet, so will it affect my chance to getting into UCB/UCLA? By the way, I joined the TAP program of UCB! Please leave any idea if you know.. I am so nervous about my "F"... Any feedback is much appreciated! Thank you!

Even when you replace the F, both grades will still be shown on your transcript, but the grades will be averaged.

3.6 is still good enough to get in B and LA so if you get good grades in fall, there is no reason why you cant get in both schools

^^ I dont think that is right. I think if you retake the class, they will only see the new grade u get and only count that toward your GPA. Graduate schools however will see both grades and average them.

The grades aren’t averaged. If you retake the class, the new grade will replace the F. However they WILL be able to see the F. It forever stays on your transcript. Keep in mind this is for the UC’s, I don’t know how other schools calculate their GPA’s, I know USC averages them.

Fall grades are taken into consideration, so if you retake it during Fall, they’ll see it and you’ll be good. Spring unfortunately is not taken into consideration. I wish it was hahaha

How did you get an F?

You could probably get into uc merced
