I’m going to be graduating from a CC in a couple of semesters, and I’m trying to make a few tough decisions when it comes to majors and schools.
In a perfect world, I would transfer to FSU and major in Classical Archaeology.
However, because of personal and health reasons, I feel like it would be better for me to stay at home and go to USF; where I would double major in Anthropology and Classics.
FSU’s program requires only 30 credit hours, while the double major at USF would take 59.
I have the idea of taking some classes at USF and then eventually transferring to FSU, but I’m not sure if transferring to a university and then transferring to another one would look bad.
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Look bad to whom? If you are planning to apply to grad schools, you’ll need letters of recommendation, research with faculty, etc…all of these require relationships with the faculty at a school which is hard to build if you are jumping around. If, on the other hand, you are just looking a getting a job in an unrelated field, where you went to school and how often you transferred won’t matter after the first job. They will care about what work experience you’ve had, skills you’ve mastered, impact of your work, and your references. College will simply be a box checked that you graduated and hopefully did well and, by the way, cool major so maybe something to talk about in an interview…
Many schools require two full years of classes at that school to graduate (the basis being they know you’ll have fulfilled most of the requirements for their degree - not so if your just there for a final year).
I do plan on going to grad school, hopefully in the same program at FSU, but if not, then at the University of Memphis in either Egyptian Art and Archeology or Ancient Egyptian History.
FSU requires only 30 hours in residence, with the stipulation that 45 of one’s total credit hours be at or above the 300 level.
@LiberalCrafts I just sent you a lengthy PM.
