So I was accepted about a few weeks ago into the Neurobio and physio program which was entirely unexpected. I had a cumulative 3.0 unweighted gpa before and my SAT scores were pretty mediocre so I never though I'd get in. Well, my first semester senior grades were good, pretty much the BEST I've ever done academically and I managed to get a 4.0 but the second semester I slacked off so much (before college acceptances) because I thought my prospects of getting into a UC were pretty slim and didn't think it was important to try anymore. My grades are now:

Physiology: C+ (I know I can bring this up to a B-)
Physics: C-
AP Lit: A
Problem Solving: C
AP Gov: C
AP Studio Art: A
Social Justice: B

UC Davis states that I cannot test any lower than a C and they didn't mention how high my GPA had to be and although none of my grades are at D's and I technically meet the requirements I don't think they'll be happy with 4 C's. I'm definitely trying harder to pull up my grades but will they revoke my acceptance over my second semester grades even if I managed to get nearly all A's in the first semester?

Colleges don’t expect your second semester senior grades to be phenomenal. But really, what made you think you could slack off? What college would take a D, UC or not? Don’t freak out though. Davis said C was the cutoff right? Then C is the cutoff. Go to your teachers and ask if they would offer any extra credit, and work your ass off on any remaining assignments. The AP tests are close and most schools will be cutting down on the workload so it may be hard to raise your grades. Just pad it up as much as you can and worry more about your finals than the AP tests, if you’re taking any. If you can really get your Physiology grade up to a B (especially important since it pertains to your major) and avoid getting a D in Physics, I think you’ll be alright. Talk to your counselor and Davis’ admissions office to make sure.

Well I was never going to let myself fail any courses (I can at least put that much effort into my grades) but I was pretty set on going to a community college and then transferring later. I’m just terrified there’s some minimum semester GPA requirement I won’t meet even though it wasn’t specifically stated in the conditions. Of course I feel really stupid for letting senioritis kick in and I now have to work twice as hard as everyone else.

I can sympathize with you. Senioritis kicked in for me… junior year, and both my first and second semester grades looked pretty much like that. To be completely honest it was just bored suburban kid apathy and I have no sympathy for myself. But my SAT scores must have saved me, or my essays, or something because I still got into surprisingly high-rank schools. All you can do now is the best you can and take what you get. Maybe some of that apathy is still hanging around… but remember that once you get though high school, you get a fresh start. There is no shame in going to community college then transferring. Grad schools (if you’re going, that is) care more about your grades than the college you go to and employers only care about grad school. Just know that whatever grades you end up getting, and whether or not you get into Davis won’t make or break you.

hate to break it to you, but you have to maintain at LEAST a 3.0 weighted or else your acceptance will be revoked. They can notify you at anytime too. My teacher told me a story where a student was moving into his Cal dorm a few days before teh first day, and someone came to tell him his admission was revoked. GLHF

UPDATE: I called Davis’ admissions office and asked them and apparently they’d only revoke acceptances if you get a D or lower in any class so I guess I’m safe for now, but I still need to watch my grades!
