Will University of Florida care if i have been expelled.

I am currently a Sophomore

I was suspended/expelled for 1.5 semesters for joking around to be a terroist on a website; this was off campus and it was only between me and another student, and it all happened within 7 minutes.

My GPA is well above 4.5, could be 5.0-5.4 by senior year weighted. I will have over 13 AP Courses by the end, and a predicted 2050-2100 SAT score.

My Freshmen EC's are horrible though; Operation Smile, and ISA.
Sophmore EC's: Lacrosse & Science Olympiad <-- Before i was expelled..
Junior EC predictions: JV Basketball Team, JV Lacrosse, NHS, SNHS, MHS, Eco Club, possibly quiz bowl.
Senior EC predictions: Same, probably exluding Basketball and/or Quiz Bowl.

Community Service Hours total: 75-100
Job Experience: Sophmore Summer working at Universal Studios Orlando in a restaurant.

So far in my freshman year i received a 4 on AP Human, and 3 in AP Environmental. I am taking my Sophmore AP tests next week; AP World & AP Psych
Junior Year i will be taking: 4-5 AP Classes
Senior Year: 4-5 AP Classes: So around 12-14 Total AP Classes getting no less than a 3 on each of the AP Exams. There qualifying my for National AP Scholar w/ Distinction, and a imminent AP Scholar with distinction.

New School Type: (Part of Sophmore to Senior Year): Large Private Catholic High School (1,200 students total).

I'm predicting a fairly good essay on the application, and i will apply in the earliest week if possible.

I'm thinking about doing a science fair project at UCF and will try to make my way to Intel(I probably won't).

Also; any chances for UC Berkeley/ UCLA/ NYU/ Cornelll/ Other lower Ivies.

I have a really good personality, and that expulsion was my first school offense. I have never been in trouble with the police, or anything like that. I will clearly show remorse to all colleges i apply to, as i clearly have and will make up for what i have done.

Thanks,

Why do you keep asking us about this? It’s at least the third thread you’ve posted about this situation. Many of us have given you already thoughtful answers.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/906689-university-florida-applicant-high-school-misconduct-consequences.html</a></p>

This is a revised and edited thread. The other one contains unecessary posts.

Discard the old thread, this is the new thread.

Uh, yeah, they’ll care. Getting expelled for terrorism-related stuff is a pretty big deal. If you were an employer or a college admissions, wouldn’t you at least ask for details if you hear about something like that from an applicant?

That’s not to say that your application is doomed. Certainly, you will have to explain, but there is always a chance.

I honestly can’t answer your question. But in your situation I would enlist the help of my guidance counselor, principal, and priest. As the parent I would want to conference as to the best way to handle the situation (not lying obviously nor sweeping it under the rug, because that isn’t going to fly). And, with the knowledge and a plan I would then proceed to apply to college. You have some hurdles to overcome, good luck.

The topic has already been discussed. We already have suggested to him what he should do. He is a sophmore and won’t be going to college for 2-3 more years anyway.

I’d suggest that this thread be closed because repeatedly asking the same question won’t be of any help.

Curious…

What did you do for the semester and a half?

I know someone who was in a similar situation - immature joking on Facebook about the VT killer and he was expelled. His parents quickly moved him to another school. The new school thought that the expulsion was “over kill” and didn’t include it on his records. He’s now in college.

College will definitely care, but I don’t know if it is necessarily damning. You are given a chance to explain in paragraph/essay form on your college application the situation surrounding your disciplinary action. If you are able to write a very introspective heart-felt convincing paragraph about how much you learned from the situation, learned about the seriousness of the internet, how sorry you are etc (assuming you actually mean it) then colleges might not hold it against you as much.

hmm @ mom2collegekids,

My parents moved me within 3 weeks after the expulsion, at first we thought it would only be a 10 day suspension etc. I’m not sure whether the new school can cover it up, can they? Next year i am going to a bigger school though(1,200 students),

The school i am going to now is just for 2 months.

The University of Florida is not a particularly selective school. Unless they demadn to see your disciplinary record, you have no obligation to disclose this information (most high schools keep disciplinary records separate from transcripts; but just in case, check with your individual counsellor). If you don’t, then I would just ignore it and if you are pressed unofficially then you can tell them that you were on a sabbatical/leave of absence. You only have to tell them about the nature if they ask directly. Consult a lawyer for guidance if any quesitons about your disciplinary records are ambiguous or confusing to you.

There are two other threads on this same exact topic and lots and lots of parents have advised you. You should not be asking the same thing again as the answers will be the same. Claiming the other threads had unnecessary posts is just your opinion.

Here are the TWO PREVIOUS THREADS started by TheLogic, on this same topic, as background for all who come across this NEW thread now:

This one is from March 30, 2010 until April 11, 2010 and has 154 posts:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/894268-hi-expelled.html</a></p>

This one is from April 12 until April 14 and has only 18 posts but people on that thread pointed out to you that you had already had a long thread on this topic:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/906689-university-florida-applicant-high-school-misconduct-consequences.html</a></p>

Please read back the thoughtful advice given to you and stop posting NEW threads. You can go back to those threads and continue posting on them if you have updates or new questions.

This is trying the patience of the adults here who have given so freely of their time to you. Just saying.

Thanks!

Since this is at least the third thread the OP has posted on this, and the OP already has gotten lots of good advice, I’m closing this thread.
