Will you chance me? I'll chance back...

Hi, I'm a white male from Little Rock, Arkansas. I attend a small private school.

SAT: 800 CR, 700 M, 800 W (2300 in one sitting)
SAT II: 780 Literature, 750 US History
ACT: 34 composite (scores from 36 to 32)
AP: World History- 5, US History- 5, Studio Art- 5, English Language- 5, Latin: Catullus- 4
Senior Course load: 4 APs (Calc BC, Latin: Virgil, English Lit, Psych), Shakespeare, Astronomy, Economics, and Media Art
GPA: 4.47 or something like that (weighted). I'm not sure about unweighted, but I make all A's.
Rank: School doesn't rank.
Extra: National Merit Semifinalist, Jefferson Scholarship Nominee, NCTE Promising Young Writers nominee, National Honor Society

ECs: School Newspaper Editor, Quiz Bowl team member, Harry Potter Club president, Senior Peer Leader, Heavily involved in Drama, worked as a Summer Research Intern at a major hospital in my area

Awards: Golds (Summa cum Laude) on National Latin Exam, multiple state art awards, multiple state journalism awards, Sewanee Book Award, multiple class-specific awards (mostly in English classes)

Teacher Recs: One is from my English/Shakespeare Teacher, Newspaper sponsor, and faculty advisor. She knows me very well, so I expect a great recommendation.
The other is from my Latin teacher and my school's Dean of Students. It should be great as well.

Counselor Rec: I went on a week-long trip with him, so I think he will write a good one.

I haven't written my essays yet, but my greatest strength is writing.

I'm applying to Yale, Brown, UVA, William and Mary, Rice, Columbia, Wash U, and Pomona.

Any suggestions on how to improve?

Thanks!

No one? :o
I guess I’m just looking for reassurance that I’m not wasting my time.

Your GPA and test scores are your definite strengths. Your ECs are a little limited for top Ivies but enough for other good schools. From what I understand, teacher and counselor recs usually don’t end up being strengths for people because of how teachers and counselors have a tendency to write good ones for their students. The only reason I don’t put you at a almost lock chance at getting into the top schools is because of your ECs, you have not done much to show leadership and the president of the harry potter club does not sound very impressive (sorry). But your achievements should push you into some of the other top schools. You are a very strong candidate

Yale - reach
Brown - reach
UVA - match
W&M - in
Rice - match
Columbia - reach
WASH - in
Pomona - ?

Just a question… What does “match” mean? Sorry, I’m new.

Match is essentially that. You can’t count it as your safety, but it’s definitely not a school that have a small chance at. It’s a school that’s good for your level of scores, gpa, and ECs. On that note, I want your test scores. lol.

Yale-Reach, as it is for anyone.
Brown-Low reach
UVA-In
William and Mary-In
Rice-Match, probably in.
Columbia-Low reach, a little lower than Brown
Wash U-Match
Pomona-In

It’s a school on your level.
