DH is the gardener and he’s Uber busy right now. I bought new planters that look exactly like the ones in the “big picture”, and I like this arrangement. What are the names of all those plants in it?
Thanks!

I believe the spiky one is Cordyline. The pink flower appears to be Impatiens, but a larger variety with redder leaves. Lobelia is the trailing blue one. The yellow one might be jessamine, but I’m not sure. And I honestly don’t have a clue about the longer vine. It’s pretty though. You could try a different vine, such as vinca.
I think it may be sweet potato vine, though I have never seen one with variegated leaves. Very pretty!
Those typically have much bigger leaves and I don’t think they are variegated. I’m looking around to see what it is, very nice.
Pink flowers are New Guinea inpatients. Shade tolerant.
Oh gosh guys, thanks so much!
There are some unusually leaved sweet potato vines, and they may substitute well if the poster can’t find the exact plant.
Very cool, I’ve never seen a variegated one.
It’s labelled as a potato, not sweet potato. I’ve certainly never seen one in our garden center either! Think the smaller lobed sweet potato might be easier to get and would make a pretty good substitute.
I wonder how they got the lobelia to trail like that. Mine are just big puff balls.
Yes to new guinea impatients and lobelia. Can’t see the yellow flowers well enough to identify. The variegated vine…I’m not sure if that’s a “potato” vine - the leaves are quite small. But any variegated vine would work - even an ivy.
Hopefully you are not placing in full sun. The impatients don’t tolerate full sun well though the other plants would probably like it! Part sun is ok.
It’s not sunny until about 12, then shady again late afternoon. I might do geranium instead of impatiens, they tend to do well in the front. What is the white flower?
I think the white is euphorbia.
Most of the flowers in that arrangement will be found in the Proven Winners section of your garden shop. In the 4 inch(?) pots usually running here in the Midwest around $3.99 - 4.99 a pot. The white flower is pretty and delicate looking.
Lobelia is one of my most favorite annuals but I often have trouble keeping it blooming. It seems to peter out.
Good to know about the Lobelia, I might find another trailing flower.
Anyone ever used plant identification apps? Wondering how well they work (or not).
I have tried a couple. I had one that I felt was free, but was NOT accurate. (maybe Picture This?) I’ve downloaded a couple others that said “FREE” but then when you downloaded it was like a free trial so I deleted.
I’d be interested in a tried and true one - that is free.
Looks like you have enough help identifying the plants already. I have big whiskey barrels - one in a sunny location and one that is part sun/mostly shade. One thing I like to do is go to my local nursery where they have many garden containers, with various sizes, both for show and for sale. Most have a tag that lists all the plants in the container, which enables me to identify the ones I want to buy and try to reproduce a similar look at home.
With only a few hours of afternoon sun, plants that need “full sun” may still flower, but most likely not be as showy. Also, make sure to use a fertilizer when watering to get the most abundant blooms. I use Miracle Gro Bloom Booster. The nursery told me they add it to the water every time they water but said to use it at least 1-2x a week.
A podcast I just listened to recommended the app “Seek” - I’ll check it out later
I’d love to find a plant identification app. Preferably one that’s free, but I’d be willing to pay if it was a worthwhile app. I’ve looked on line and a few of the ones that are free are only free for a limited period. Another one constantly wants you to upgrade to a paid subscription. Anyway . . would love a recommendation from people who have used a good identification app.
