Will your 2nd semester Senior Grades ever count for anything?

like if you are a transfer student, or apply to an overseas university?

Yes. If you decide to transfer they will look at those grades.

Also, if they are bad, a college may rescind your admission. You have to submit final transcript following completion of high school to your chosen college and colleges review those and students have beed rescinded because of bad grades.

I know that in England, they want to know you’re predicted grades. so they might count if you’re applying overseas. you have to ask the specific college/ university you’re interested in

They also count towards your final GPA, which could come in handy for scholarships.

how bad can they be?

^if you are referring for the purpose of rescinding your admission, then it really depends on college. Yale has mentioned rescinding for a couple of Cs. Other than very high ranks, most would require something significantly worse than that . Ds could be deadly at many and a D in a course required for admission to the college (e.g., if college requires four years of English and last year is D) creates a high risk of rescission because of failure to meet a course requirement if the college requires Cs in all such courses.

This is an old thread, but I think many people are worrying 8th semester grades. A while back, I found this 2008 Washington Post article that I think will help address some concerns: [Jay Mathews - In Praise of Senioritis - washingtonpost.com](http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/03/AR2008020302355.html)

Here’s a very relevant quote from the article:

“The standard bogeyman – they’ll cancel your college acceptance! – is out of touch with reality. Bruce J. Poch, Pomona College’s vice president and admissions dean, says he has done it only eight times in 21 years. Last year, Harvard reversed just one admission, and only 35 percent of colleges surveyed by the National Association for College Admission Counseling did it at all.”

If you have absolutely horrible grades for last semester, yes, they technically could revoke your admission. Particularly if it is a selective school. I’d say if you’re really feeling lazy, make C’s at the very worst; they probably won’t revoke your acceptance for making C’s.

Also if you plan on transferring, you’ll want to make good grades for last semester. If you do a sophomore transfer colleges look at your high school stats.

Exodus’ statistics are based on extremely biased samples.

Pomona and Harvard are accepting high-caliber students who are unlikely to have massive grade plunges in their 8th semester in the first place. Their lack of revoked acceptances is probably more a result of the lack of students who would be in danger of having their acceptances revoked in the first place.
